Hi,
My brother is in need of a new AGP card. He doesn't want to spend much more that £40.
Although gaming performance would be a benefit he really won't be gaming on it much at all so that shouldn't be the deciding factor. He just wants one that is good for multimedia, mostly DVD and divx playback. Also some photoshopping.

I've never paid that much attention to budget cards so would like some advice on what to go for please. Not bothered whether it's ATI or Nvidia.

A problem is the general lack of availability of AGP cards these days, choice is not big but I've got a few suggestions below:

  • The Radeon 2400 Pro - seems like a contender with it's features but it seems to suck really bad in games.
  • X1650 Pro is another
  • Geforce 7600GS can just about be had for £40

Any help welcomed

If your brother would consider secondhand then that opens up the market a bit more, the X800 series and 6800 series are in budget and are still passable for gaming at lowish resolutions/detail levels.

He'd consider 2nd hand, yes. I put up a wanted in MM a couple of weeks back but got no replies, could try that again.

hehe, you might want to read the faq. no selling outside the members market. you won't have access to that until you get 250 posts. :)

edit: on topic, the 7600gs isn't a bad little card for the money. i had one for a short while and could play older games such as gta:sa, hl2, flatout2 and pro evo6 on max settings in vista (back in it's beta days :p). (1440x900)

sorry. Yes I meant 2nd hand. You will have to expect to pay over the odds for new AGP cards now.
