Spec me a camera

Hi guys,

I want to buy the missus a decent camera for Christmas. I have a budget of about £450. What are my options with this?

DSLR, bridge camera or point and shoot?

If its the first then look at the Canon 350D/400D, Nikon D40/D40x or possibly Olympus E410.
Bridge cameras, look at the respective offerings from Panasonic, Fuji, Sony, or Canon.
P&S, afraid I haven't a clue!
