Another shout for a Civic Type R. Could probably pick up a decent very early one for 4k.

Fits the criteria perfectly. Quick, fun and reliable.

So why do it with a 650 mile Mini? You can't use a Mini as a daily driver and keep it on 'as new' condition, they were just made well enough. A 650 mile Mini is special because it's a 650 mile Mini.

the engine has 650 miles because its a new engine. The car is meant to be driven and thats what i intend to do!

It's a good shout but I don't think an 8 year old performance car is immune to problems just because its a Honda.

So it's not a 650 mile Mini then?

Renault Clio 172/182? Chuck-able, fast, not too old, shouldn't be too unreliable (feel free to correct me on this)

A much better choice for you than a mini in my view.

Have to say I agree with Fox on this. I actually really like old Minis, but if you buy it for £4k and then put loads if miles on it it's going to become a £2k mini in no time. You may as well buy a sound £2k mini to start with - you won't lose any cash on it then.

Also, 650 miles is no guarantee of trouble free motoring. I've had a couple of rebuilt A series engines go pop at 500 to 2000 miles when I had MG's. I'd be more reassured if it had 10k miles on it to be honest

I do about 70 miles a week, drive everyday. Don't see the problem, even when I was doing 60 miles a day from wakefield to York on M1.

Though quite why in the other thread people start mentioning me I don't know.

Edit this is a mint 'show mini'. Though all the mini shows I've been to have mini owners who actually drive daily not keep it special for no reason.

exactly. Which mini forum do you use?

He wants something fairly quick and a < 1L Mini isn't that, nor is it good value. As for bodywork worries, Minis like to rot for fun.

Oh okay...because Mini's are actually going up in value each year and not depreciating like your fiesta?

It's also faster than your fiesta 1.25...it's even faster than a 1.6 mk5 golf so what's your point Jane?

Can I ask one question?

WHAT RELEVANCE DOES MY CAR HAVE IN THIS DISCUSSION?

Seriously, wind your neck in.

FYI - I paid £960 for my car 2 years ago (this also included a cambelt change for free, which saved me £200) and guess what: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2409114.htm I can still get the same sort for money it now. I also can also travel on the motorway at 70 without wanting to die and I didn't have to pay thousands on scene tax for the privilege of owning a small car. I didn't doubt the fact Minis are a solid investment, I did state they offer little for the money and they are slow in <1L guise. FACT.

I went to Sheffield down M1 at weekend at 90mph in, wait for it, the fast lane, 4th gear 4k rpm. What's the problem?
