I'm in need of some ideas of where to go with my work etc. I'm a jack of all trades and master of none at the moment! I've learnt a load of stuff but due to not doing it at Uni or having and official experience in it, I'm finding it hard to nail a job.

I was going to become a level designer for computer games and to get in to this I made a mod for Half-Life 2 called Rock 24 and worked for computer games companies for 3 years. Rock 24 did well and I could now get a job as a level designer (as the guy I made it with has) but myself and my fiancee recently decided we want to move to New Zealand and over there there's not any jobs in this! (aaargh).

So, now I've gone back to learning AutoCAD which I have a qualification in from college as NZ are in desperate need of CAD technicians!

I also have 3d Max and Photoshop skills, does anyone have any suggestions for jobs I can train myself up in using these skills? I am looking to use the skills I have which I'm sure for someone somewhere they would be very handy I just don't know who yet!

Any ideas or pointers for job titles I can research on and build up a portfolio for?

I'm finding it hard to know what to type in to job search engines. :)

lol, I'm actually renovating a flat at the moment, I guess I could take those skills and make a living from it.. But i'd rather sit on my arse drinking coffee and using pc's. Also, If I'm active I won't be able to browse overclockers all day.

To be honest I'm considering doing something similar.

A friend of mine has left IT and is now working as a painter and decorator. He's got so much business he's now taking people on.

He's raking it in. You'll never be rich working for someone else.

Aye, we are waiting on an electrician at the moment. He's not going to be along until the end of the month either due to being so busy.

I guess there's a lot of work in it and actually when you get in to it it's fun and rewarding but not sure about doing it as an actual career..
