Hi all

Now I know SONY didn't do any of their CRT HDTV in this country, prefering to keep them in the states / japan - OR AM I WRONG?

Anyway if they did, what are the UK model numbers?

Other than that, can anyone tell me the best regarded CRT TVs ever made, ? Currently looking at a KV-36FS76 but does anybody have any other models to check out?

weve had a Panasonic one for years, 100hz jobbie and its been pretty damn good for that time. Obviously showing its age now though :)

Yeah I've had a 25" trinitron for 10 years now. Great TV. But CRTs are literally so freaking cheap now I thought I would see if I could pick upa bargain. Like a £2000 TV for £50 or so... But was wondering if anyone knew which are THE CRT TV's to be looking for.

You are going to have & job & half trying to find a newish 36" CRT telly these days. 2nd hand is another matter. IIRC the main makers of 36" TV's were Sony (avoid) Toshiba (OK) & Panasonic (Good) none were HD ready AFAIK.

Second hand is where I'm looking.....

Why should I avoid sony?

If I can find a 36" set with component in that'll sort me out. Do the toshibas and Panasonics offer a flat screen?

It looks like the HDTV sony Variants are the XBR series. I can't find a model range or spec sheet anywhere though. It looks as though they make a chassis e.g. KV-36FS and then supplant with a number e.g. 76, 170, 320 which determines the spec level and kit included. If I could find somethign that explains that for Sony / Tosh and Panny would be great.

Rear Projection :( Got to maintain them, and I've never really been a fan of them. Really want a direct view CRT. edit (although if I found like a 60" RPTV for peanuts, I of course wouldn't like to offend by refusing - imagine some old school gaming on one of them)

So today people say "Panny PX80!!!!, Pioneer Kuro!!!" nobody seems to know what the equiv fan bois would have said in the age of the CRT??? :D :D

i think JVC or Panasonic did a HD CRT. There was something strange about it though i think it only did 1080i no 720p

I hope you have arms like popeye because lifting a 36" crt set will be a job and a half.. :) My 32" has been sitting in the lounge on a wooden stand for years.

The shelf has quite a bend in the middle now.

I like my parents toshiba, but it has a wonky gun so the picture looks like it has had too many sherrys :D

Just have a lok around and pick one, I honestly don't know which would be best. The sony wegas were alright but I preferred the pannys.

Tempted to get a cheapy myself, they still produce such a good picture !

people are almost literally giving them away, even sets as young as 4 or 5 years old that originally cost 1k +.. If you like fiddling and testing and playing about .... need the space though :))

OMG the Sony KV-36FS100 36" Flat-Screen TV weighs 250lbs! Thats over 110kg!

Wouldn't have a foot left if you dropped it, would take 3-4 people to lift it in the first place.

I used to sell Sony CRT tellies many moons ago. The quality of them just wasn't up to scratch compared with Panasonic & Tosh IMO. There was also a couple of models that had design flaws in them (resulting in faults) as well, can't remember which ones though.

Apparently the Sony WEGA KV-40XBR800 is the biggest and best crt made, 40" and weighing a mere 138kg. I think it's only available in the states though. Imagine the overseas delivery cost on that thing:eek:

I got rid of my 32" CRT panasonic Quintrix. The thought of moving house again with that thing was enough of a reason as it was up in the spare room. Shame really as it was a good TV for SD stuff.
