Spec me a gift for a female gamer/WOW fanatic.

Like yours? Lighten up

Lighten up ?, trashing an innocents dudes thread that was just coming on here for some simple advice and everyone has to start ripping into the girl that no one on here actually knows ?, I understand that we have a laugh on here but that's not an excuse to start wrecking every thread that has potential stereotype subject matter, that's what I can't believe, most of us are geeks on here, on the net, posting in this 'computer forum' and yet we have the audacity to take the mick and be rude and particularly crass towards other people that like playing games like WOW for example and make stupid unfounded assumption about them,

The same happened when that dude came on here a week or two ago asking about the games workshop, everyone started assuming that he and people like him smell and have b.o. problems etc and the thread started to escalate out of control, it's just childish, I really don't understand why people do it, are your lives that pathetic that you have to make yourself feel better by putting these people down, hell most people spend half their life watching crappy TV soaps etc, we don't rip into these people, you know I really mean this but some of the kindest most noble people I've met have been these nerds and geeks that are into games workshop and wow and collecting models etc, these dudes are so innocent, they don't want to hurt anyone one, they are generally really friendly nice people that just have a keen interest their little hobby, yeah have a laugh, but I honestly believe if you can only do that at somebody's else expense then your the people that are truly sad.

Its only been in the last year I've noticed the tendancy to thread trash. Its even more annoying when a thread is actually remotely interesting and people don't give it a chance to develop. The Dons need to reign in.

Saying that... of all those threads, this OP really was a lamb jumping head first into the kebab van.

most of us are geeks on here.

I think you'll find the "internet user" stereotype is pretty much an increasing minority. Most people on here seem very sociable and have an active life rather than sitting in a dark room talking binary and wearing Joe 90 specs while fapping over Lara Croft :p

I know, that's true, but that doesn't mean we're not geeks, I think your getting confused with the stereotypical 'nerd', geeks these days are cool tech-savvy sociable dudes like myself .

No worries... to be honest, I think of this place like an online pub, complete with all the banter. From the moment the OP posted, he should have known he was doomed, I tells ya! :D

Anyways, where are the pics of the aforementioned female balancing a loaf of Hovis on her head?

Not quite balancing but still :p, would be crazy walking through Trafalgar Square like that, the pigeons would have a field day lol.

Wow, a post about WoW so instantly the "get a life" crowd jump in.

Some of the comments here were funny, but mostly jumping on the bandwagon posts.

A big box full of get a life.

Weren't you the guy bumming Age of Conan (another MMO) and then slating WoW at any possible moment in the PC forums?

Yeah you were, maybe you should take some of your own advice...

Owned :D

Having been there myself, I have seen how much of your life MMOGs can chew up if you're not careful so it's hardly as if it's not true in a good proportion of cases - they are hardly the sort of game you can just have a quick 5 minute blast on :)

This is why I refuse to reinstall CoH, WoW or EQ2. I don't have the discipline to stop myself from having "one more hour...", but can happily have a quick 20 minutes playing on some classics via MAME etc. Other people online guilt tripping you because you are the healer or tank must be a major factor too.

MMOs are crack for the digital age :)

Agreed.

Funnily enough I know some people online who spend hours and hours on the likes of online FPS' but to them WoW is sad, quite funny really. :p

MMORPGs have more of a sense of achievement I suppose with the whole levelling thing, but to me, it's just like a big carrot on a stick encouraging you to spend more and more time on it. With an FPS I'd argue it's less of a draw, and it can become more tiresome.

I used to play RTCW and TFC a lot but always felt like I'd had enough after a few hours, whereas if I had a week off, I could easily stay up all night playing CoH or EQ2. :(

Buy her a bag of ice and then you can both go outside and play real life frost mage against the evil biddies from the lands of M&S! Get costumes too!

[WoW Gamer Gurl casts icecubes of despair and mild bruising @ old biddie #5]

*my WoW knowledge is limited but I feel I have done well, no?

Why are most of the negative comments in this thread allowed? I thought that it was against the rules to post insulting comments? Clearly it's ok if the subject matter isn't directly about the person posting here.

To be quite honest, the thread trashing in GD has become incredibly lame recently. It is almost impossible to get any sense out of people. Surely something needs to be done about this?

Seriously, some of the comments that we get now are totally unnecessary and they are ruining the atmosphere of these forums. They are a great place to visit, but now they're slowly descending into a place where immature rubbish is the order of the day.

And now everyone has hopped from one bandwagon to another, and has derailed the thread even further. At least the caustic replies are finnier than the holier than thou hypocrites.

Bravo

Thread derailed further? Oh please, don't be ridiculous, this thread was beyond saving after the first response. And please elaborate as to how we're hypocrites? I posted up saying that the majority of responses here were rubbish, as they mostly always are these days on these forums, and was calling for something to be done about it. It's meant to be a forum for mature discussions, not filled with puerile rubbish reponses that make no sense and do nothing but promote trolling further. Sure, the replies are kinda funny, but are they really necessary?

Thanks for proving our point though. No proper point from you, just another troll post to further add to the rest in here.

Anyway, to put it back on topic, as mentioned above, zestuff.com and splitreason.com are good sources of stuff for gamers.

Hypocrite ?, Holier than thou ?,

I really do get annoyed when people start to throw these words around every time idiocy gets tamed by common sense and truth, anyone can see that the thread trashing these last few months has gotten out of hand, I've been here since '05 and this is honestly the worst I've ever seen it, and other long term members is this thread have said similar, and what makes it worse I think is the fact that the mods have let the thread stay open for this long considering some of the comments and the fact that the original poster kindly asked for the thread to be deleted/closed, if the thread was closed on the posters request in the first place then we wouldn't even be having this discussion right now.

Right, so what's the point of trashing it more rather than stating something new?

Hardly a 'bandwagon'.

"God everyone was really on the vote for Obama bandwagon... then a few turned to the vote for McCain bandwagon... so cliched!"

Fight the machine, Tefal. Fight the machine.
