Spec me a kettle!

This looks like a better alternative, and the water come out actually boiling (though in 40 seconds...)

The Breville VKJ318 Hot Cup

That's what we've got, cracking piece of kit.

Exactly what I've heard. Looking at reviews, the Breville looks like a safer bet. Also, there's a version with an alarm that can wake you up with a fresh cup of tea! :p

Alarm clock version is pap, doesn't hold enough water for you both to have a drink in the morning.

Had a Breville brushed alu cordless kettle with built in brita water filter for 4 years now and it works and looks good as new, it was only about £35 too.

With the breville, does the kettle part detach for use as a...kettle?

I like the idea, but how do you for example fill a saucepan with boiling water. Having 2 separate appliances seems a little messy.

Just get a random tenner kettle and buy a new one every 6 months :)

This. Just get the cheapest. I bought a cordless kettle from the high street catalogue store last year for £2.50 & it's lasted longer than the Tefal cordless kettle that cost 15 times as much. The water's so hard around where I live it kills kettles in about a year or so & that's using a water filter too.

I've found that flat bottomed cordless kettles are prone to leaking too. The cheap ones have a conventional heating element in them & are less prone to leaking for some strange reason.

The nozzle is the only water outlet, there isn't a "normal" kettle hiding inside.

I used ours to fill a mop bucket a few weeks ago, had to fill the bugger twice, dispensing a cup sized shot of hot water each boil. Dug out one of our old cheapo kettles to make it easier when i moped a few days ago. omfg how SLOW is a regular kettle compared to a one shot! It was actually quicker to put 2 "shots" into a jug and pour that into the bucket (repeatedly) than it was to wait for the regular kettle to boil a couple of times.

Not ideal though for the (very) regular need to fill saucepans with water, for rice/pasta etc!? Rather huge flaw there unless everybody is running both.

I notice that there is a thing called a quick2boil which seems to have both, might look at that :)

I've fixed it, albeit temporarily I guess as there was corrosion build up on the magnetic plate and clips to the element. The magnet plate was therefore not holding down properly. Ultimately, I assume a small leak which has lead to the corrosion in the first place but it keeps the kettle going a bit longer :)
