Hi guys
Wondering if anyone can help.

I'm looking to upgrade to a Mini ITX system due to saving space etc.
I need something small enough to fit under my desk as space is going to be limited.

My current spec is

I7 4770k
Gigabyte G5 sniper
DDR3 2400mhz g skill
EVGA 980ti hybrid
corsair 540
Corsair H115
EVGA 650w
Dell G-sync 2560x1440p 144hz
I'll end up keeping my ssds and Hdds

The PC is used for gaming that's it really.

Budget is around 1200-1500

Easiest way, is grabbing 2nd hand itx board and changing to rtx 2060 min for power increase.

What resolution / monitor model/ Hz you gaming on ?

Ryzen 6 core would be more of a side step, 8 core would be better but if gaming at 1080p then no performance gains . 6 core intel would get some gains but ideally you'd want to double your core count for 9700k but can be costly

As above - your need to change form factor is unfortunately going to be very expensive if you after significant improvement, in games, in the CPU department.

@orbitalwalsh sums up your options well - unfortunately the second hand market for quality 1150 ITX boards is expensive.

Is your CPU clocked? If it's not and you're use to stock turbo boost then H81 ITX motherboards can still be picked up new relatively cheaply (if you didn't want to risk second hand). That coupled with a RTX 20XX will still give you a big boost in games.

EDIT: You could then upgrade board and CPU when you will get more bang for your buck...

if going new.. and squeezing it all in- would need to get a AM4 bracket for your cooler from corsair @CorsairChris might be able to help out

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £997.65 (includes shipping: £11.70)

also recommend looking at Neo G Mini case .

might be able to pick up some cash with your old core system as a bundle

ryzen 2600 bit of a side grade but least at 1440p CPU isn't the main issue, though extra core and threads will help in games like BFV etc were they are needed and used.

https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/software/the_division_2_pc_performance_review/6

sure 2600 comes with Division 2 for free

also rtx 2070, you get a choice of 1 free game out of 3 . BFV, Metro and Anthem

IMO just stick it out for now.
Ryzen 2600 doesn't offer that many advantages over a well clocked 4770k...really.
If you want to change it should be an upgrade, rather than a sidegrade.
980ti is equivalent-ish to a 1070 or 1660ti.
You'd see an improvement with a 2070 and it won't be bottlenecked by an overclocked 4770k.
But with high refresh rate 1440p gaming, I think you're better off with a 2080 instead.

For gaming, there really isn't any meaningful improvement over a well clocked 4770k that's worth a £700 outlay.
Personally, I'm still rocking a 3770k paired with a 1080ti

I'm leaning towards Intel again, but of course I want it to be a upgrade, I've had my 4770k since release.

It's just picking the right parts I'm struggling with.

you'll get the gains with the rtx 2060 over 980ti but naturally rtx 2070 would be the better choice

as tamz stated above, normally i7 4 cores would jump to 8 core i7... 6 core is a slight improvement as well as 5ghz but not enough to justify the costing...

even ryzen 2600... would still aim to find ryzen 2700....

Or if you have to change form factor another possibility:
  • Second hand Z ITX Motherboard (~£100) or new H81 ITX (~£60)
  • RTX 2070 mini (Zotac) ~£470+
  • Case ~£80+
  • TOTAL ~£610 - ~£650+
This would give you a larger budget towards the GFX card and the RTX 2070 (which will give you the biggest performance boost) should hold you until the market is in a position to give you a better CPU upgrade path for your money/performance.

This way you get to spend more on a better gfx card, arguably required at 1440p 144Hz gaming, and have your pick of quality ITX cases. Your only compromise may be an under-performing K CPU if you go for H motherboard or the expense of an overprices second hand Z ITX. That said, you would at least get your pound of flesh out of the motherboard if you kept it for a couple of years...

So its not worth going i7 and rtf 2070?

*** i7 9700k oem - £365, 3000hz 16gb corsair - £90, aorus itx z390 -£160. windforce rtx 2070 -£470 = £1085 from rival site

saving listed above means could get NZXT H200 case with better airflow !
