Hopefully gonna have a couple of grand to spare on getting myself a new bike soon.

Will use for journey to and from work etc (10 miles each way) plus pleasure riding.

Planning on riding all the way to Sweden (1400 miles) next year too so need something very comfy, pref a tourer.

I'm 6' 2" as well so needs to be comfy enough for a tall chap.

All opinions welcome - ta.

if you want something with a bit more poke, a late 1990's 918/929cc fireblade is a decent bike. Bullet proof, easy to ride fast, comfortable for 6ft+ people & good fun.

Not as cheap as an sv to tax/insure though!

depends what you call poke and all I guess but crikey an SV sure has enough poke for me :p

I dont think I'll move from 600 ish any time soon for fear of entering looney mode :D

How about Honda Firestorm?

Cheap and beening Honda the build is good. Reason i say this is because i have one:D so far i have coved over 50000 miles and been to france 4 times now. Only really needs oil changing every 2000 miles and spark plus.

If you go for the later 2001 then the H/B are 5mm higher then pre 2000 Honda Firestorm.

Loads of parts out there for them and David sliver spares are pretty good on price to.

Just a thought tho....

Best thing would be to test ride:
SV650
Late 90's Jap 600: CBR, ZX-6R, R6
And the blade.

See which engine style you like, V-Twins are a bit different to the Inline 4's, and you may prefer the extra grunt of the blade.

Edit: I suspect that a CBR600F would be nicest for the comfort out of those, not 100% sure though

Not really too bothered about it having lots of poke tbh. I'm riding my gf's fazer600 at the mo and I have to keep giving myself a slap on the wrist to keep my speed down on that (already on 9 points!!!), so could do with something a bit more erm... 'relaxed'.

The SV look quite nice I will look into that. I looked at a Fireblade before and I thought they were a bit too sporty for my tatse. The Firestorm looks good too but 1000cc is too much for me to handle (especially economy wise).

Any more suggestions?

What about the Super Blackbird? Same kind of idea as the Fireblade just Hypersport Tourer instead of all out sport. Suits a taller gent with all the grunt of an army of pigs!

Its my next bike of choice when I get around to upgrading. Can't wait to be honest. Few guys on here have one and it gets awesome reviews.

Tourer or sports tourer?

Tourer, something akin to the Speed Triple would have been fine I'd have thought, either that or an adventure bike style (KTM 990 SMT, BMW GS etc)

Sports Tourer as what's been said, the Blackbird :)

I would not tour on a firestorm though.....tank range isn't exactly brilliant

They're all good bikes you are mentioning but either too big an engine or out of my price range.

I do really like the Kawazaki Versys and the Speed Triple though.

Have a look/ride at the Suzuki GSX600-F. Been a great sports tourer for me, very comfy and can be quick enough when you want it. Obv this is no sports bike but think it is exactly what you are asking for. Much better than the sv ;)

Seen as no-one has mentioned it yet you wouldn't go far wrong with a Honda Deauville. I'm 6'1" and mine (NT700) is the most comfortable bike i've ridden. If you can stretch to the newer NT700 version ('06 onward i think) you get a bit more power and a few refinements but the NT650 is also worth a look if your budget won't stretch that far.

If your after some more info try over @ http://www.deauvilleuk.org/forum/ their a pretty friendly bunch ;)

Define "better". It's considerably heavier than the SV with very little more power. They don't handle or stop as well an an SV, and uses more fuel so about the only thing it's better at is comfort.

The 1200 Bandit is not the most sophisticated bike and you don't get a full fairing as standard. Speed Tripple is a fun bike, but not a tourer and very little choice at OPs budget.
Blackbird is good VFM, and I spotted this ZZR1200 on eBay that might be worth keeping an eye on. VFR800 maybe?
