I am getting a bike through the ride 2 work scheme and am limited to the range on www.evanscycles.com.

My riding will be mostly street with a good measure of dirt jumps and trials thrown in. Currently my list consists of:

GT Chucker 1.0
http://www.evanscycles.com/product.jsp;jsessionid=3F3CC689D0996E4D2EDD55B185CA5BFE.tc5?style=70254

Specialized P2 Cro-Mo
http://www.evanscycles.com/product....ADEE4CCCDA91F4E29DD333E98.tomcat1?style=70272

Specialized P2 Alu
http://www.evanscycles.com/product....ADEE4CCCDA91F4E29DD333E98.tomcat1?style=70271

Any other recommendation, suggestions or comments guys?

Thanks for your time. :)

Orange P7? Slightly over budget but a good bike.

How about a Marin Northside Trail?

I am refusing to suggest a GT as some people think that's all I can do! :D

Remember that I'm limited to evanscycles as it means I save almost 50%.

You're refusing to read the original post properly either. He's restricted to bikes from Evans Cycles, who don't stock Orange or Marin.

I wouldn't really recommend the P7 for street or dirt jumping either.

Remember to factor in a helmet and pads.
And do wear them as i came off a few weeks ago, broke collar bone and arm, and had i flown a few feet further i would have had a nice dent the shape of a tree stump in my head.

Im wearing one all the time from now on!

id get the p2 cro mo

but id be very tempted top try and get them to order in a different bike , orange hitman (are they even still made ? ) or a 24 seven or something

depends how serious you are about jumping etc , singlespeed and steel frames a must imo

I am not refusing to do anything. I just glanced over that bit. :p

In that case, get the GT!

That's the bike I meant to say not the P7.

Anyway, how serious are you about jumping? If you are using the bike to ride to work you want less weight not more. Hell, I could do jumping on my Avalanche, as I have done...just not stupid big stuff!

Protection is separate to the budget of the bike and already sorted :)

Why get that over the specialized?

Pure jump/street, pretty much no commuting as work is very close (10 mins walk).

I'd much rather have the 7/8 gears. Bristol is a hilly place and getting to BMX parks on a BMX sucks, not something I'd like to repeat when going to trails/jups.

out of the choise on evans definetly one of the specialized ,

you just gotta decide whether you want the stiffness and strength of the cromo or the lightness and bad looks (imo) of the alu version , thats assuming they both have the same geometry

as for gears
i just see them as something else to go wrong or break when jumping or smash off objects on street/park

too much hassle for me personally , dont get along with them at all :p

If you're gonna be doing a lot of street then def go for cromo.

Of the bikes available to you, the Spesh looks like the best bet, very popular bike and for good reason.

DMR are worth looking at too, but are a bit more pricey. Depends on your budget though really, what's the max spend with all the accessories you have to get too?

I have no physical cap on money but I am very adverse to spending above certain amounts, just like I'm sure some of you won't consider spending 2k on home cinema, I don't like the idea of spending more than £700 on a bike.

£700 is the absolute limit really. I initially said £600 as I know the "just a bit more" syndrome on OcUK ;)

Protection purchases have no limit.

Hmm... just found the DMR range. I get what is basically half price on the bikes so the difference between £350 and £400 isn't that much.

I'm tempted to get the DMR Jump 2007 now and upgrade the forks to something better come december.

i have a P2 Alu, it is quite ugly the cro-mo looks a lot nicer but my one of them was nicked and replaced by my insurance company for the alu. But it is still a damn good little bike for the price it is good shape and very good ride easily flung about on the ground and in the air. The forks are fine for *** you paid for the bike but nothing overly amazingand compared to the vanillas on my other bike there abismal

GT's Triple Triangle Fram is very strong and less likely to bend under the stresses of Freeriding. Also, I happen to have a soft spot for GT bikes.

How about going for an aggressive XC bike so you can cycle further if you want to yet still jump? Something like the 2007 Marin Northside Trail or a Rockhopper?

Don't get me wrong I don't dislike Specialized and would love something like an Enduro (05 Please!) but don't like the lower end bikes because everybody and his dog has one... ;)

That is completely irrelevant.

I don't want an all purpose bike. I just have an issue with a single gear as getting to my tracks involves about a mile uphill.

As it may be - for you. A factor is owning a bike for me is having something that I don't see day in day out.

If you're cool with owning a Spec then the P2 should suit your needs. I'd still have the GT for the added strength in the frame. YMMV

Do you know much about the DMR ready built models?

Thanks for helping :)
