Spec me a new backpack

As mentioned Berghaus, Lowe Alpine and Karrimor have lots of good packs between them, I've got various bags made by those companies and they are all great.

What activities are you planning to use it for?

If you want to save some money you can always try Quechua. Despite their price their stuff will take a beating. Brother has had his for a couple of years and it is still going strong.

My current back pack is a Vango 30L and has been going for 2 years, with no sign of wearing out. Unfortunately it is a little bit too short for me, so can get uncomfortable after a few hours if it is particularly heavy.

Karrimor are a bit bootleg now they make most of the stuff in china. The oakley one the OP pointed out probably costs that much because of the brand.

Theres lots of good quality day sacks to be had for a lot less money.

To be honest Berghaus and others are exactly the same.

A friend of my brother's used to work in a machine shop making outdoor clothes.

£150 Berghaus coat and £40 "no make" used exactly the same materials. True, you don't just pay for the cost of materials, there is the design, fit and so on [and I am big fan of Berghaus], but the brand really does add to the price!

This is why when I need something new I wait for the sales! :D

Its a pity karrimor went the way they did. The factory was in the next town to me. Used to get some real bargains at the factory shop

Thanks for the suggestions - I am looking into them now.

It will be for general purpose use. I cycle a lot, so it will be used for anything from shopping, to carrying beer and DVDs round to the girlfriend's etc.
