Ok, my OH's monitor went fizzle...then decided never to turn on after that, other than show an amber standby light. In all honesty, I was expecting it to go anyway.

I'm going to give my OH my 17" CRT - in the meantime, I'll use a new monitor that hopefully somebody will spec me on here. :D

Right first things first - my bullet list:
  • I'd like a monitor with tilt and height adjustment. Maybe the tilt isn't so important, if I can adjust the height.
  • Should be decent in games.
  • Should also be decent colour reproduction, as I use Photoshop and will be playing some films on it
  • The viewable height of the screen must be bigger than 244mm (current viewable height of my Hansole 710D).
Can't think of anything else really. :o

I'm unsure about going widescreen or not, but it does seem to be the way forward. I'm not all that bother about colour of the monitor - I'm going to be looking at the monitor, not the bezel. Then again, silver would look nice next to my hifi. :D

My budget is about £200. :o

im sorry im only recommending these on performance and + price. the 226BW is not height adjustable so i assume the 20" isnt either. as an owner of a 226 i can thoroughly recommend it. there have been panel issues in the past, Samsung claim to have fixed this now...pinch of salt if you will? besides panel lottery, a bit of configuration will make sort out any colour isuues and leave you with the best 22" on the market...for just over £200. stunning gaming + browsing...just check the heights and viewing angles ;)

I believe one of those monitors was recommended to me in my last thread, but it's a good month or so old now. :o

OcUK doesn't have to stock the monitor. I don't mind shopping elsewhere - all I want is a nice monitor, with a decent price tag to match.

because 22" is better ;)

no reason i suppsoe especially giving the saving in price!
with a monitor it is worth having a look in the flesh to get a good impression of what size you want!

trip to the purple place is always a good idea to get a feeling then a purchase somewhere better value! enjoy your purchase! ;)

Link to my old thread. I hope Baddass sees this thread!

Hi Basmic. The LG L226WTQ and Samsung SM226BW are both pretty popular. The Samsung is perhaps a little better establiashed, and there have been some reports of poorly controlled overdrive on the LG model (including overdrive artefacts and overshoot)...i wont go into it too much now, but Xbitlabs had a good review of it here which is worth a read :) The Samsung is a good bet though, if a little over budget. The Pebble designed SM2232BW is very similar, just a different design so maybe worth a look too. I'd say those are two of the best to consider in the 22" market, and just about fit your budget.

You could even stretch a little and get the S-IPS equipped Dell 2007WFP in the 20" market. Don't be put off by the 16ms quoted response time, in practice it performs very well, and LG.PHilips rate the panel used actually at 8ms G2G. S-IPS will offer some improvements over TN Film used in those 22" models, but you may not need it? The features and ergonomics of the Dell are excellent though, whereas the SM226BW doesnt have a height adjustment, neither does the L226WTQ I dont think

Is there an easy way of working out the viewable width and height of a 16:9/16:10 monitor, if we assume it is 20/22"?

Ok, I've got about £275 to splash out on a new monitor. This is the TOTAL price, not just £275 on the monitor itself. :p

I'm looking to stay in the 22" monitor size, because I think I'd hate a 24" monitor in my face.

Remember - the monitors don't have to be ones which OcUK sell/stock. I am capable of using Google. ;)

Samsung 226BW then. :D

If only it were that simple eh !!! :D

226BW:

No height adjstment on screen, only 10 Degrees tilt.

Can be hit and miss regarding backlight bleed.

The panel lottery (rumor mill) still hangs over the 226BW,

More Likely to be a samsung panel in the 2232BW, but the 2232BW sufferes more than the 226BW with backlight bleed (according to some quarters).

 as I said, not that simple :p

The Iiyama ProLite E2201W looks interesting, but I have yet to see it in the flesh or hear of anyones experiences with it.

Very nice Monitor, pictures/colors are very vibrant, id say comparable to Samsung colours. I would recommend it to anyone.
When you say 'comparable to Samsung', do you mean that Samsung are good enough to be set as a benchmark for monitors below the Sammy's specs?

No not in that sense, Their are various models of monitors our their and what im saying is the LG is comparable to the Samsung colours. every other monitor that i have seen next to it (Only the Dell and Samsung models) have been less quality.

LG being cheaper i would go for it since their both practically the same.
