Looking to invest in a new rig to last me the next 3-4 years without having to upgrade.

I thought of just buying this pre made pc - Ultima Vanquish" Intel Core i7 920 D0 2.66GHz @ 3.80GHz Quad Core DDR3 System but thought I might get more for my money building it myself.

I'm not up to date with todays tech or know what components work best with each other.

I'd want this pc to be focused round the new 5870 GPU.

I'd like a big case as my current antec is tiny... maybe the antec 1200?

Budget £1000

Also, I'll be using my current hdd for this new build so don't include any hdds.

Thanks.

Its very unlikely youll be able to use your old HDD without reinstalling everything anyway because all the drivers will be different. Thats a decent storage drive but you want something faster for boot drive, either a SSD if you can stretch or just something like a 320gig WD black, put windows/apps/games on and documents etc on the green

Edit: spec like this? included HIS gfx card as its in stock, obviously if you prefer another brand just wait til more in stock

HIS ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £306.99 (£266.95)
Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail + Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Game £208.99 (£181.73)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard £142.98 (£124.33)
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU) £139.99 (£121.73)
Antec CP 850W Modular Power Supply £96.99 (£84.34)
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800 (1600MHz) Low Latency Tri-Channel (PVT36G1600LLK) + 3D Mark Vantage Benchmarking Software £86.99 (£75.64)
Sony Optiarc AD-7241S 24x DVD±RW SATA Lightscribe Optical Drive (Black) - OEM £18.99 (£16.51)
Total : £1,001.91

Edit: AGAIN: add in an aftermarket cooler such as the titan fenrir, takes you over a grand but the vanquish you linked comes out at £1200 when you select gfx card n case

This is a tad over your budget but you could remove the SSD and bring it back under £1000
Ive gone for the xfx 5870 which is a tad more expensive but it had the 2 year warranty direct with OcUK
This spec should ruin any game you throw at it! The 860 should hit 4ghz too on decent cooling at least 3.8 ghz easily.

Looks good. I'll probably get my order in mid October.

Question: I have about 8 games installed on the 1gb WD green drive, can I still run them from this drive even though I'll be installing vista onto an SSD drive? I don't want to install all these games again.

Thanks.
