1500 quid budget need everything, main uses will be gaming and um more gaming,

I have no problem with noise so feel free to speak a dozen deltas if you want :) ih and need an os as well

was thinking c2d 2 gig ram decent gfx all on air, but i'll leave it to the ocuk gurus

I would set aside £100 or so and choose your mouse/keyboard/speakers as people have different opinions on them
Also what size monitor do you want?
And unless you have a windows copy already i would suggest getting vista if you can wait a bit
Also what kind of hard drive space do you need?

was looking at the 22" 250 quid monitors on ocuk

i'll be needing a minimum of 300 gigs h/d space as i'll be pulling the 200 gig out of my current rig

This is what I am ordering this week, you will also need a mouse (I have a Logitech G5 ),If you are gonna be o/clocking then maybe another cooler.

MONITOR... god knows
I have spent the last 2 weeks deciding and am still nowhere near the right answer :)
This spec gives you about 300 quid to splash out.I would hold up on the Asus atm as lots of people seem to be having problems with it ,Dells 20" seems to be good but a lot of people are going for the 22" screens, check out the monitors section and join the club of unsure "buy button" hoverers.

1150 seems good,

but as you say monitor hmmmmm,

currently running a 19" crt and the lcd telly in dually. so could possibly continue that, was looking at the belinea 22" monitors on ocuk(they seem pretty decent) but hmm now you mention it i'm going all awry again
