Spec me a one man tent please

I really like those small bivi tents like this. Don't think it gets much smaller or lighter. Can be a bit like sleeping in a coffin though so maybe not good if you're claustrophobic, but I see them as cosy.

Don't own one myself though. I just have a leaky bivi bag that is light as hell but rather unpleasant to sleep in when it's raining.

thanks for that. i'll bear it in mind, although not sure it would be suitable for alpine

If you worryed about your head getting cold then get one with a cover :)

Plus you put your sleeping bag inside of it for extra warmth :)
The material they are made out of will keep the elements out

One man tents are a complete waste of time imho. Get a two man and be done with it - you'll be far more comfy when actually sleeping and you'll have some space to take stuff in with you.

A decent two-man doesn't weigh much anyway and will pack away nice and small.

I'd say 2man also, but maybe one without the "porch". This way they're not much larger than the 1man with a porch, but give your bags complete cover instead of letting water get in underneat.

Of the three, the north face solo looks best to me, although I'm not sure whether that even has a porch as it looks quite small, which the macpac one does have.

Why?

The macpac has one pole only, and the particle looks more interesting that the solo

The way I see it:

Macpac: Great for fast erection, simple and easy to use. Not as roomy/can't situp etc. Also appears to have little/no ventilation. (1.9kg)

Particle: Better.. More roomy (So can situp inside), and easier to reposition (doesnt have to be taken down to move) however appears to have too much ventilation and could be chilly in cold areas. (1.7kg)

Solo: Still roomy, you can situp etc. Assuming it is also easy to reposition. Less ventilation that the Particle, but better ventilated than the Macpac (<1kg)

Therefore I see the winner being the Solo. Much more suited to all year around. Whilst you may save a few seconds getting the Macpac up, it simply doesn't cut the mustard enough for its one saving point.

Oblivious, that was an excellent appraisal. I would be offering you chocolate were you here now.

I think I need a high tent as I'm 6'2" and my mate who just got the macpac is significantly shorter.

I am not sure about the ventilation... wouldn't that just make it colder if I'm in the alps?
