He also said 'posh' so he's obviously after some premium car?

If you think its acceptable to completely disregard one of his criteria then allow me to suggest a Mercedes S63 AMG.

Comfy? Check.
Posh? Check.
Fast? Check.

Good lord, you love starting random arguments don't you. The "posh" bit is very subjective, the suggestion met all of his criteria and IMO met the subjective one. If he doesn't like it, thats his choice, but I thought it was worth considering

By Saab drivers?

Perhaps.

By everyone else? Not really. It's no Mercedes Benz or Jaguar, is it?

As previously stated above, I don't think the x type is any posher really

made me lol.

I was only jesting about the Saab, whilst it looks like a great car I'm just not interested! No disrespect intended!

Manual boxes not good then? I was out in America for a month driving an Auto and I did like it, but missed having gears! Don't know if I could live with an Auto. What is actually the issue with the manuals??

Cheers guys, good input thus far!

I've no idea on what planet a Saab is considered posh but it sure as hell is not the same one I live on, I know that much.

Nothing wrong with a manual, Although with this sort of car you'll probably see more autos than when looking for smaller hatchbacks.

The sweedes do comfy and fast pretty well, so volvos are worth looking at if you can get over the badge.

No the issue is with the auto boxes packing up on X types the manuals are bomb proof, its just most people dont want a manual Jag, if you are ok with one, its a winner.

Amazing how people don't understand that words like posh are very subjective depending on who you ask. My old mondeo and even my current car have both been described as posh, so i didn't see much point taking thar part of the op too seriously

By who?!

A Honda and a Ford Mondeo can never be described as posh! Not even if the person lives in a skip.

The premium part of the SAAB automotive group has long since seperated & gone its own merry way.

Scania.

SAAB cars are not what they were - and they were hardly premium then!

Win!

What about mileage-wise? Seeing a lot of variation between 2002 cars. Avoid high milers (80/90k)?

To be fair people used to say 'this is posh!' when they got into my Mondeo because it had leather seats.

I quietly lol'd.
You clearly hang around poor people then ;)

An old Mondeo got described as posh? You're either lying or you need to stop being friends with people who live in caravans. :p

Miles dont matter, just buy the best condition and make sure the history is full and proper, not from Fred Blogs garage.

Dont discount the 2.5 either they go well too, the 2.1 are a bit pants though and you dont get 4 wheel drive on those.

Wealth has nothing to do with it

Relative interest in cars has everything to do with it

And when I say "my old mondeo", I don't mean it was an old car, merely one I don't own any more

S3 is a good choice but you won't find many facelift 225's (late 2001 to 2003) for under 5k. S3's are comfy but still have very stiff suspension and the ride can get a bit 'crashy'

Not as fast as you probably think! I wouldn't call it a hot hatch personally...
