Hi guys,

Just swapped an old 8800GT for a new new MSI Hawk 6870. Great upgrade, very quiet - unfortunately the extra load on my PSU (while still within its maximum delivery potential) has pushed it into a higher fan speed, and now my lovely silent system with lovely silent graphics card is a buzzy little bugger when under load. It's a bit warmer than I like now, too.

Am I right in thinking that if I go for a higher wattage PSU then it will cope better, not get so hot, and not have to spin up its fan so much? If so, is there one you'd recommend for quietness and stability? Would I be right to look around the 600W mark, or need to go higher? (I'm not fussed about modular or not, as the case has no window.)

Am running with...

Phenom II 955 BE @3.4 on stock volts (let's say approx 130 watts)
MSI 6870 (approx 160 watts)
Asus 79x motherboard
2x HDDs
4x DDR3 1600 @stock
BD-ROM
Creative X-Fi Fatality and front plate
Wireless PCI card
USB-powered scanner
USB-powered wacom tablet
And a few fans on low speed.

...running off a 460W Akasa Paxpower from 4 years ago. I suspect the whole lot is pulling 350-400 under maximum load, so quite close to safe limits really. Probably should have thought about this sooner :p

No real budget limit, but "sensible" prices preferred! :)

Thanks for info!
