Hi Good folks,
Can anyone give me some recommendations for a new receiver for
my home cinema system?
My Current Yamaha one is about 6 years old now and does not support the newer HI-Def audio formats for Blu-ray. I need something with probably 3 HDMI
inputs.

Anyone one got any recommendations , looking to spend about 400ish max , but would stretch a bit further if something was awesome.

Thanks

If you've enjoyed owning the Yamaha then get another on, they make great AV amps. The RXV-765 has 4 HDMI in and can be had for around £440 with a quick search.

Some one will be along shortly to recommend an Onkyo. They usually have lots of inputs for little cash.

It's worth telling us what your speakers are to help get a good match.

My budget was under £300 so I went for the Sony StrdH800 (7.1) which has all you need for HDMI/Bluray etc and is highly recommended over at AVForum.
Is your speaker setup 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 etc?
IMO, if it's going to be mainly used for TV/films and your current speakers cost under say £250 then I'd say no need to spend £400-450 on a receiver but of course it's totally up to you and how much of an audiophile you are. You can probably tell I'm not much of one!

I'm looking for the same update, a mate of mine has just got the Onkyo 606, after listening to it I'm going to save some money and get the Sony H800, for me a ~£280 amp is plenty good enough.

Hi ,
The current speaker set I have is a JBL matched 5.1 set ( cost about £400 when I got them ,
they were 50% off due to the place selling them closing down)
I have an extra rear center surround speaker added in as well.

Still unsure as to what to get , the Yam looks nice BUT I see one flaw with it.
If you are using HDMI input you cannot select another sound source , as in
if you were to use an htpc with hdmi(for picture)
but you wanted to use a coax/optical audio input source for audio this unit wont allow that.
There is talk of a firmware update fixing this issue ,
can the Sony one do this type of function.

Also can anyone recommend a good site for reviews of these type of hardware
Most searches get results from those stupid shopping portal sites , that dont actually have reviews (hate that)

Yamaha have released the firmware fix for the 465/565/765 with 1065 due in september. So seeing as you have owned and obviously enjoyed the sound of there units, I now see no reason why not to replace like for like. The Sony and Onkyo are very bright in comparison the Yamaha.
