Buy a really nice Dolomite Sprint. Better than an Escort in every respect and if you take care of it it'll be worth 2-4k more in a few years time........RWD, lively 16-valve engine, really nicely built, great interiors, plenty of style, loads of positive comments, ace to drive, loads of tuning bits too. Sorted!

If you can find one, perhaps a Polo G40. Well retro and very quick. Had one a few years ago now and wish I'd never sold it (or at least stored it somewhere).
