I was thinking HP Microserver with OpenMediaVault installed. Decent NIC and SATA controller which is often the failing in cheaper NAS boxes.

I'm all sorted and ordered the Synology DS218j and 2x WD Red 4TB drives.
My work colleague gave me a 20% discount so I've got all 3 for £317.

What a breeze to setup, I'm transferring from my old Seagate NAS to the new one.

If anybody buys a Synology go to You Tube and type in How To Setup A Synology Nas and there are 12 easily explained parts.

Nice, make sure you configure the NAS to spin down the drive after 20min

There will be a lot of questions if I can't sort out some minor problems.

Just like to say thanks for guiding me up the Synology path, I now appreciate what it means 'You're paying for the software'.
