superb spec but i would make these alterations:
SSD: the intel 80GB would save a good bit of cash
RAM: get 1600mhz memory instead of that http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-129-OC
if you are left with more cash improve the case as imo the antec 300 aint worthy of an i7 rig :)
either CM-690 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-145-CM
or Lancool K-58 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-004-LN&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=1447
both good cases for the money

I wouldn't be spending such a large proportion of the budget on an SSD - get a smaller one for boot if you like. :)

This ^.

I wouldn't go SSD yet, you can get more performance for less out of a decent RAID array.

Especially when the machine is being built to a budget (and said budget has to include a 24"+ monitor).

Spec me a rat

So i currently have a Microsoft explorer mini mouse. And while it is fantastic for normal pc use, it has a free-wheel, which is have found is absolutely useless for swapping weapons in games, and other tasks that require snappiness, such as zooming in flash or photo shop.

I had a look at this
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-169-LG&groupid=702&catid=23&subcat=1276

It seems to have a button which turns it from free-wheeling to a ratchet. Would the ratchet mode be like a true ratchet mode and perform gun changes in games like a normal middle mouse scroller?

Also, with that mouse, it says the battery last for 3 years, how true is this? And what happens when it does eventually run out? How hard is it to replace?

And secondly, are there any better mice around for £40 or under that have a ratchet scroller?

Thanks.
