Spec me a torch for walking over the moors in the dark!

While Lensers are good, they're not the brightest for the money and they're overpriced for what they offer as well.

The P7 isn't that bright (compared it to my Shadow and it's nowhere near as bright!, it was on par with my £15 Solarforce L2 350lumens though but not as strong in the middle) but it is a high quality torch. Then again anything from HK in that price range is just as good but offers brighter output and comes with more accessories usually, lanyards, spare o-rings, bezels and so on.

If it's your first light then the P7 does seem very bright. Only when you compare side by side do you see the difference!

Get yourself a 4 cell Mag-lite... I've had the same one for near on 12 years and it still works like a charm and haven't used the spare bulb yet, bought it for when they where not illegal to use at nightclubs and concerts and it's been hammered over the years...

It's true they do make a very good tool for self defence as well, though unless absolutely necessary don't smash someone's head with one.... though it makes a satisfyingly sickening hollow sound your lucky if you haven't killed them!

He did pull a gun on me though...

Do you want a head torch? Do you mind carrying a battery pack? Do you want to be able to use the light for other things? How heavy do you mind it being?

So long as you stay clear of Trustfire & Ultrafire, the emitters only seem to last a few months before going dim and the build quality is shocking.

Indeed my Ultrafire C8 is still going on over a year old now AND Aod borrowed it and took it to Africa so the age old avoid Ultrafire statement doesn't apply all the time :p

I just went with a LED Lenser MT7, will be using it in a professional capacity and not walking though.

The focus mechanism is stunning. Evenly distributed light in flood and spot, none of this empty dark spots in flood as with MagLite etc.

More than your budget allows for but the cheaper non-tactical versions have the same high quality focusing systems. My usage means the extra £ is worth it for what it offers.

Lumen rating is important but not if the light is being thrown by naff optics.

I run my kit with Eneloop Hybrid NiMhs so that charge sticks when not being used and keep spare sets ready to swap out and put the drained set back on charge.

I remember it fondly! :D

Funnily enough, we're actually considering stocking SHADOW torches at the place where I work! How are you finding your VG-10 Mrk? :)
