Spec me a warranty replacement...

Evening,

My Samsung PS51D6900DKXXU gave up the ghost last week.

John Lewis were fab, reported on the Friday with 3 months warranty to go :eek: collected on the Monday by a local agent. I chased today on the way home from work out of curiosity to be told a replacement part can't be sourced and so I have £799.99 credit towards a new set. :):cool:

Now it's been 5 years since I've even looked at a panel and that's a long time tech wise so need bringing up to speed.

  • I have no affinity to Samsung, Plasma or 3D (5 years ago it couldn't be avoided). Happy with curved or flat.
  • Whilst not an AV geek anymore I still want a respectable quality set.
  • Most viewing is Sky HD or ATV/Streamed services for films & TV series.
  • No smaller than 50", vewing distance is 9ft give or take in a rectangular room 20ft x 13ft.
  • My amp, being quite old, uses optics so I need an Optical-In ideally.
  • Aesthetics are important (sorry :p) so it needs to look as delicious as the pictures it displays.
  • Happy to top up to £1k if warranted.

Any suggestions or pointers towards reading so I can get myself up to speed would be great :)

Thanks for the recommendation. Ended up with an LG 55EC930V. A little over budget as these things always are... worth the stretch having viewed a friends and been very impressed. Wasn't aware they can be had for sub £1,100.00 now.
