Morning all,

I not looking to build muscle or anything like that I just want to tone up, I have my own little gym at home and want to make the most of it, I have the following and would like to know what I should be doing to just keep trim?

Treadmill
Rowing Machine
Cross Trainer
Punch Bag

All help greatly appreicated :D

so you want to lose fat?

HIIT a few times a week
bag sessions a few times a week.

Sort your diet out or it wont do much.

I dont want to be loosing weight I want to be toning up what I do have I only weigh 12 stone, I do have a bit of a belly on me too!!! My diet is healthy anyway but not sure really what and when I should be eating.

I am new to all this so really dont know what I need to be doing!!!

"tone up" is a combination of gaining lean muscle mass and lowering bodyfat %.
If you want to gain mass then you need to do some weights or something to progressively overload your muscles, you will need to be eating more to make the muscle grow.

If you are saying you want to add 2 stone of lean mass (which in turn would lower bodyfat% on a good diet) then that can be done over time with weights.

Have a think about what you really want to achieve, do you have a picture of you and a picture of someone that looks like what you want?

Ready GordyR's sticky then ask any questions you might have. Not wanting to build any muscle but wishing to cut bodyfat will leave you looking very skinny/small.

I do also have some weights so could add that that in to the workout!!!

I have a read now of GordyR's sticky, however I dont want to build muscle I just want to maintain what I have and lose the belly!!!

Dont have any pics of me but I would just mainly like to have a flat stomach.

Resistance training will aid fatloss.

If you want to loose your belly move more and eat less.

Spend 10 minutes on each peice of equipment you have 3 times a week and see where you go from there.

Then do what I said in my first post :P

You do realise that by not gaining mass but losing fat will make you lose weight, which is what you said you dont want to do :p

I always enjoy seeing the term "tone up" when Morba is involved. I can always hear his blood boiling :)

Nay no blood boil, just want people to have a clear goal. Toning isn't a clear goal :p

Asking people to define 'toning' usually puts them straight. As what people refer to as a 'toned' body is actually just lean and muscular. So their goal is in effect to be lean and muscular too.

I just see/hear 'tone/toning/toned' as build a sensible amount of muscle with their main goals being health, fitness and well being as opposed to being a walking unit

After reading everything you guys have said I am just confused, I want to get my stomach flat and I guess I will need to gain a bit of muscle also would not mind making my chest and arms a bit bigger, so I guess I am asking what kind of workout I am going to have to do to achive that, I have the equipment and can go on it but no idea how long for and what will help me most.

Sorry to sound so dumb but dont want to injure myself or anything by doing the wrong thing!!!!

@Morba if you were to set my goal what would it be??

Ooh good question. One that I am completely unable to answer I'm afraid fella :(

I am a big advocate of having a clear goal, this helps with motivation :)

Cool, we are getting there :)

The sticky is a great place to start, its a good routine. Failing that something like starting strength or stronglifts are great routines for beginners.

Dont be fooled into thinking you will look like arnie, you wont. It might not seem like routines are geared towards chest and arms and a better midsection, but they will all get you there and be much better for you than only working out arms, abs and chest :)

There are your goals.

Now look up some exercises for biceps, triceps, chest, back. Though don't neglect to train your legs and shoulders too.

As for getting your stomach flat as mentioned improve your diet and spend 10 minutes 3 times a week on each peice of equipment you have and see where to go from there after 4-6 weeks.

Lift weights t2 days a week 1 day for core and upper body and the other day for your legs.

Then train Cardio for the other 3 days in the week while adding in Body Strength exercises like pucs ups sit ups and Burpies on the cardio days too.

Have the weekend off.

Do all this while eating healthy.

This is how id do it :)

IE

Monday Cardio

Tuesday Weights Upper and Core.

Wednesday Cardio

Thursday Weights Legs and Lower body

Friday Cardio.

Saturday Rest

Sunday Rest
