Ahoy all,

As the title says, I'm in need of a shiny new router. I'm currently on ADSL2 but would like the option of upgrading to FTTC without changing router.
I'm using Plusnet's default ADSL2 router atm which is giving me jip in the form of random and/or constant disconnects (have had an Openreach guy round today who has said my line is fine both to and inside my flat).

I don't have any fancy requirements, just need something that will last and has a nice, well optioned web interface.
Budget is £150~

Ta muchly!

To the best of my knowledge most modern DSL routers will have a modem compatibly with both ADSL and FTTC fibre.

I can't offer a good opinion as I moved to a pfSense home built router a long time ago but I always liked the ASUS interface and things like the DSL-ACxxU range are in your budget.

The Draytek 2762AC is decent and will definitely last. Draytek support their devices forever so you'll still be getting firmware updates in 10 years time.

Or get a decent router and get one of the BT Openreach modems off ebay? The HG612 series of modems will do VDSL and present it on an ethernet.
I am not sure if they'll connect to ADSL in the meantime for you though, but this line of research could still be worth looking at.

The HG612 will do ADSL but you have to unlock it and it's a bit of a faf. The broadcom based Zyxel VMG1312-B10A is by far the best bridge modem for ADSL and VDSL but the desirability has sent the price skywards.

It’s less than 60 seconds ‘work’ to unlock, you could equally spec a Vigor 130 if that’s your thing.

+1
The HG612 is a bit long in the tooth now though and always has run very hot. I swapped to a Vigor 130 last year, a much better modem IMO. Runs nice and cool, has a good interface including stats and as yet has never dropped connection. Because of the chip it uses, it's also a much better match for the cab i'm connected to than the HG612 ever was.
