Most of them are just **** now and the really nice ones are held by people with massive overinflated sense of what they are worth so sit on PH for ever at bonkers 5 figure prices.

So, you then? :p

Joshy, can you not a get a discount on a bentley? :D

Seriously though you will probably end up in a soarer again at one point, might as well be now. ;)

EDIT: Throwing this out there as no one else has:

As it has been said, I have a lot of respect for the DCs but they just aren't my sort of thing. Its similar to how I am pretty much certain a 200sx isn't right for me either, despite ticking almost every box they're too tinny and just not "right" for me, I considered s14s for a while when I had the soarer and the just didn't do much for me. I want something closer to a GT car/"supersaloon" as opposed to a sports car.

A good interior is important to me, not the be all and end all, but important. I know ill sound like a blinkered fanboy here but the soarer had an interior better than most will give it credit for, I thought it was a nice, functional place to be, not great, but good enough that I haven't gotten in a car of the same era and thought "wow". Actually I think the interior of e36 is **** in design and build quality wise in comparison.

But then that shows that I am strange and what works for others doesn't work me and vise versa. I know that the monaro and evo aren't known for their interiors but then something I am willing to take into account is capability over an interior. From all accounts those two cars are far closer to what I am after than a interga so I can let some dodgy plastics slide, the interga is nearly the polar opposite to what I personally like in a car and the interior just adds to that unfortunately.

I am not knocking them, but not for me.

Seems likethis is an awkward price point. It either buys really nice examples of cars I have already considered at one point or another previously for a bit less cash or buys the dregs of things like m3s, m5s, evos, etc which I'd consider being on another level all together.

The problem is that I NEED a nice example of whatever I get at this price point. Firstly I can't really afford to have a fixer upper, neither do I really think ill have the time. This is the last big purchase before I move out and start doing things in my spare time that don't revolve around cars!

I was going to mention Jags. Maybe some of DM rubbed off on me but I'd love a Jaguar, if the xkr had something resembling rear leg room and a manual box this wouldn't be up for discussion, I'd buy one. Like wise the x350 xjrs are cheap for what you get but again, I am not sure about an autobox in an "all rounder". I can't help but think onr would be too much of a step in the barge direction?

It sounds to me like your car preferences are quite close to mine, and I can tell you (having recently owned one) the S14a will drive you nuts, as soon as you begin modifying it, the tiny amount of GT it had disappears.

That's how I ended up in an X308 Jag XJR, I went for it because my budget bought poor X350s and I ended up getting a really mint car for a tiny amount of money. It does mean that I can shed some light for you.

The autobox is an interesting one, its a Merc unit in the XJR to handle the extra torque. I wouldn't call it a stupid gearbox, but it certainly isn't DSG.

For day to day rolling around, it's superb, very smooth and you hardly know its even there, and given a sharp kick to the floor it will launch the car at full attack without to much hesitation.

For sporty driving it's an interesting one, normally it moves off in second gear, so you only get first in sports - which makes for a breathtaking launch, the manual selection is sufficient and holding 2 makes an awesome noise. It can sometimes be a little daft coming out of corners at full attack, but never changes up and bogs down (in my experience).

As for being a barge, making sure you get one with CATS adaptive suspension is a must (standard I believe on a UK XJR, just make sure some cheapo hasn't pulled it off) , it handles really remarkably well for a walnut clad cruise liner.

If you are ever around Reading I am happy to take you out for a spin!

Not at all interested in my mates E39 M5 then?

It is far from the dregs of the market for them.

It's a very nice example and within budget.

Are you on commission or something!? Talk about being pushy, I'm sure he saw your first post :p

No, but if I can help my mate secure a sale of a good car that the OP would like then I'm happy.

It appears so. As when I first read the thread the price stated for the M5 was 6250. Now it appears to have suddenly increased to 7 :p

Calm down. It was said in jest. However your reasoning for doing so is bizzare. I won't enquire further, as I don't really care.

Sorry mate, I did intend to reply to you but surfing these forums on my phone is a pain in the backside and I've lost about 10 replies I typed out :D.

Thanks for the offer but I'm not rushing this decision. I want to at least test drive a few of the short list before committing to something, even if it is a great deal.

Even if I were to buy it now it'd just sit in my lock up for a couple of months until my 21st when I'd have a chance to actually insure it :(

So 21 isn't the age where my insurance preimums are set to nose dive?! All of those 'First car' threads on the internet lied to me :( :D.

I'm under no impression that insurance on any of the cars mentioned is going to be cheap to insure, but after all, you have to pay to play.

although the 200's have back seats, theres not much room for anyone to sit in them, i'm 6.1 and my drivers seat touches the back seat so no one would be able to get behind me. i spose if your smaller you could get someone in.

also between the s14a (UKDM) and S15 (JDM).

my insurance on the 14 was a lot cheaper (by about £300) with mods declaired over the 15.

*edit* just seen the part about not keen on 200's and prefer a GT. nvm :P

21 is a big drop in the premiums on "normal" cars; but for the more "luxurious" and "exotic" cars, the premiums will stay high until you're 25. Heck, some insurers won't do business with you until you are 25 for high-powered cars.

I'm only twenty like yourself, but looking to get a "bigger" car next. It seems crazy in my mind that I can get quotes on something silly like a TT Supra with all mods declared for less than an 02 plate Evo or similar - if they'll even insure me on that!!

Currently weighing up the choices between a 'teg DC5 and an S2k - neither of which are that kind on insurance, but are more than worth it in my opinion :)

Slightly off topic but joshy, you're around my age and live in London so your postcode must be **** too. What did you pay for insurance on your soarer who with?

Have you ran some insurance quotes as my insurance didn't decrease last year when I was 21. In fact, it went up as most premiums of young drivers did in 2011.
