Spec me an Arcade like Jet Fighter Sim Game

Yeah, in terms of movie like wow-factor Ace Combat is unbeatable for pure arcade fighting game. But its not available on PC:(

BUT, PC does have Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 2 which is hands down the finest jet fighter game available now on ANY platform (I mean GAME, not sim;) ) so we shouldn't feel too depressed:) Tons of suspense, tons of action, beautiful flight graphics/dynamics - its got the lot:)

Yep, it's a great game - nice shots there btw - I've added some A-10C and X-Plane 10 ones to the screenshot thread! Maybe I should give Flaming Cliffs some more love too.

I'd argue that FC2 is a bit pushing the boundaries if we're labelling it a game, I don't think someone who plays hawx 2 will simply have a successful game without at least tinkering a bit in the control options.

I'd call it "sim lite", its not a game its a bit more involved than that and deserves to be called a sim lite because clearly there's a lot of technical expertise been put into it.

is flaming cliffs free to donwload? i know u need modern air combat to play

No, you can buy it as add on - if you have Lock ON Modern Air Combat; or (and it costs about the same) you could by Lock On Platinum and it will have the lot: LOMAC, LOMAC FLaming Cliffs1, LOMAC Flaming Cliffs 2. Second option is better:)

Also how awesome is it that this game can be played in conjuction with black shark?

Are they going to do the same thing with a10, I guess as fc2 already features a a10 it wont happen?

Well yeah, its not completely brain dead like HAWX, but you do need to press ONE button to start engines in Flaming Cliffs (apply full power and take off).

The only area where it is more involved is weapons systems- but it takes about as much time to learn/understand as it did with learning a character in a Tekken fighting game;) Radar systems are just a matter of dragging a box onto dots and pressing "lock on". (Or you could switch "simplified avionics" and unlimited ammo on in the options and will have a game that is every bit as simple as HAWX - top down see everything radar, no stalls etc. This ruins the game though, the way to play is without this "HAWX mode").

Actually, Flaming Cliffs 3 is already officially in the works and it will be fully compatible with DCS A-10 (which IS a sim- 4 minutes of continuous switching buttons just to start the engines :) )

Flaming cliffs 2 is the best game of the lot imho, I bought a flight stick few months back and tried out

fsx
dcs black shark
apache air assault
attack on Pearl Harbor
blazing Angels 2
DCS A-10
HAWX
Heroes of The Pacific
IL2 Cliffs Of Dover
IL2 1946
Lock ON FC2
Take On Helicopters
Wings Of Prey
Ace Combat

All apart from FC2 were too arcadey or too sim, FC2 struck the right balance for me

db try rise of flight, its free to play.

its a ww1 combat sim, with variable realism, on the easiest settings its one of the easiest to fly sims out there imo, the flight model for one thing can be tuned to be very easy and also simply the nature of ww1 era planes means there arent many things you have to control to maintain basic flight.

You've missed out one gem of a game - Rise of Flight! It's free to play with two planes and without any limitations - offline and online... It looks very good, was NEVER ever cracked by pirates and thus has ZERO cheaters online, but its biggest selling point is its physics - there is nothing better for Flight/Damage modelling in prop sims (vastly better than both IL2s)! Get it here (free, if you decide to buy more planes they are often on sale for $3): http://riseofflight.com/en

Borsch, I was wondering if you could help me...

I have been playing rise of flight recently, now I am maxing out the graphics except for 4x anti aliasing and no supersampling.

But the game just doesnt look that great to my eyes. Its missing some vibrancy, it looks faded/washed out and I can't get it looking as good as I want.

I tried looking for some high res texture pack or something like that but couldnt come up with anything - yes I also have a issue with the cockpit textures looking low res and blocky.

I feel there is some scope to improve the graphics quality as performance is silky smooth and my graphics card barely spins up when I'm playing.

Is there a mod to improve gfx quality out there - first of all to improve the vibrancy of colours and secondly to improve the cockpit textures.

The game obviously isnt ugly to look at, it just lacks a certain "pop" and it never grabs me when I'm playing, I don't think its that photogenic in all honesty.

Any help would be brilliant mate!

Edit : Also, do you think the low res cockpit might be down to me only having iron cross edition and the planes that come included with this edition. I read in chat some of the add on planes are better in quality, is that correct. Thanks

Flaming Cliffs does look pretty nice. Would give me an excuse to dig out the joystick.
Lots of opportunity for fun low level flying?
How is the flying in terms of responsiveness to say BF2? Used to love doing low level flying in that :D

You're free to fly in whatever way you want- low or high;)

In some cases hugging the terrain will mask you from radar, but in other cases - if you're spotted by another fighter- you'll likely be a sitting duck. Altitude=speed (because you can always dive down and thus accelerate)= life they say:)

But yeah, its very responsive and easy to fly ( not hawx brain dead easy, but easy in a nice way).
