A turbo diesel for less than £500 will have been to the moon and back twice and the turbo will be on it's last legs.

Also, TD's dont come in the lower tax bracket. I'd recommend a small engined petrol.

Rover 220 in the later "bubble" shape, should be a fair few about on autotrader with ~100k on them for that kinda price.

Xantia 1.9TD or Mondeo 1.8TD The Mondeo 1.8TD does not offer very good performance but with this criteria who cares?

Anything with a Peugeot or Citroen 1.9TD engine, but if it's a Xantia only that has been meticulously maintained.

I had one with 225k on the clock and it was still on the original turbo.
