The wife wants to move back to Apple from a Pixel 3. I've done a little research but fear I may be missing something important, so have come here to speak to those who know better than me! :)

Is the 64GB Xs worth it for £629
Is the 64GB 11 worth the stretch to £729

Do I have any better options?

I would expect her to be keeping the phone for 2 years.

iPhone 11 would get my vote. Newer than the X's so theoretically will last longer. Camera greatly improved, battery also
 
The XS looks and feels nicer in the hand. The screen is high res OLED vs a low res LCD. The 11 has a faster CPU that will give the phone a theoretically longer life but the XS is already way overspecced for social media and 95% of games.

The 11 has a better camera but I've had an XS and can report first hand that its camera wasnt much worse than the current "among the best" Note 10+ I've got now.

Your wife needs to hold both phones and see. I'll wager that for most people, the XS will feel like a nicer bit of kit. It's also smaller and easier to use one handed.
 
I see John Lewis do 2 year warranty, is that standard; so Amazon would be 2 years also?

I ask, because if I go for the XS then I can't buy direct from Apple.
 
One year with amazon afaik. I bought mine and my wife's iphones from JL specifically because of the extra 1 year warranty.
