It's my gf's birthday in a couple of weeks and I want to give her a new MP3 player. She currently has an ipod, but isn't fussed about sticking with apple. She only really listens to music on it, so video isn't essential, she needs at least 8GB storage though.
So with all that in mind, what's the best option for £100?

Your wisdom is greatly received! :)

Sansa clip+, cheap and cheerful has great sq you can just throw on files as you please and it takes micro sd cards, if you can stretch to £125 then amp3 has an excellent cowon s9 mp3 player, it'll knock spots of any ipod.

Or you can have the 8gb cowon d2 for £100 or with dab for £112.

They currently have 10% off all cowon products atm.

Cheers man, I've had a look and they're pretty interesting, but the d2 isn't very stylish and the s9 is a bit dear.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't go for a Sony with their current free storage upgrade atm?

Sony are good mp3 players provided you don't mind their limiting choice on file formats they'll play.

True the s9 is a bit dear but it's also a hell of an mp3 player, i know i have one. ;)

Let me think, the sony i think it's the NWZE445 and yup you're right it's been reduced, id still lump for the s9 I can get it for £134 minus 10% but the sony is a good unit as well.

Bear in mind in audio the sony will only play wma mp3 and AAC

While the s9 will play this lot

File format MP3/2/1, WMA, FLAC, OGG, WAV, APE

If she's not that technical or her file formats rarely stray id stick with the sony, it'll be easier for her to use.

Actually what makes me laugh, sony advertise it's battery 'blowing out the compeition' at 30 hours, the cowons lasts 55 hours. :D

You say she already has an iPod , so why're you getting her a new MP3 player ? :p Wouldn't it be better to buy her some new headphones or something ?

Just a thought :)

It's only 4gb and the battery is shot to bits, she needs more storage and a battery that last more than a couple of hours! I already bought her some sennheisers for Xmas anyway :P

all of her music is going to be itunes, and will frankly be more difficult for her to manage her music with a non apple/ipod device.
