I've been thinking i should get my eye sight checked out, but i'm not sure where the best place is to go and what the cost may be.

I can use the pc fine but i find reading the text on tv or writing far away to be almost a blurr

If you have been to any of the large opticians please feel free to give your feedback of the service, products, aftercare etc etc.

TIA

check-ups are free most places.

I went to boots and had no problems :)

edit: maybe it's only free in Scotland, I don't know.

Granted, 220 outlets in the United Kingdom... but that one in "mkcenter" near Barclays, yes, that's the flagship... ;)

See if your company you work for has a policy on this - most do where you can claim the fees back on an eye test...

I usually go to Boots (well have done for 20yrs now) but have tried Specsavers and D&A but always gone back to Boots for their overall service - though I suspect its depends on the particular store...

Seconded, my work gave me a free eye test voucher and when the optician signed my form saying I may only need glasses for VDU work (eye strain) my work coughed up £55 towards some specs :)

It is only Scotland where eyetests are fully funded by the NHS..the opticians there also get paid double the NHS sight test fee opticians in England get paid. There was talk of Wales following Scotland in terms of free eyetests but not sure how this is progressing. Am sure I'll soon get a report from the governing body about this.

Another vote for specsavers here... had my specs from there last Friday, £75 with free reactions and pentax lenses, they even knocked of £10 from the Eye test...

Optical express will deduct the eye test cost if you buy glasses from them afterwards (should you need them). I think Vision Express does it too.

I've used to go to Specsavers for years, and last few pairs have been from Vision Express and I think they are a little more professional.

Boots do the same too...
