Hi,

Gfs birthday coming up soon and want to get her a new camera. Deisred features are:

-small enough to go into handbag easily (she likes the real thin ones)
-good in low light
-easy to use but manual features available
-decentish zoom (not sure what zoom is good on a point-and-shoot)
-great quality obviously

I would assume Canon or Sony are the best but any other suggestions are welcome. Basically looking for the best point and shoot that a beginner can easily use but stlll boasting excellent quality and below a budget of around £150 (maybe more if necessary)

Thanks in advance

thanks for the info guys - id be happy to go along with canon as my bro has canon dslr cameras and they seem great job. Just as long as it is good enough camera with enough features but still maintaining enough 'girlyness'!

Sorry guys to restart this thread again but any more recommendations on particular models to look at? Also what online sites would you recommend to purchase from?

To be entirely honest I would go with the Fuji over the Canon any day due to the Canons suffering from poor lowlight performance, bad purple fringeing and average battery life - all things that the Fuji excells at.

If you have to go with the Canon I would look at the Ixus 75 or the IXUS 900Ti.

The menu system in the Canon is quite a bit nicer but the image quality and level of manual control on the Fuji IMO make it a better candidate.

Due to the nature of this Forum we cannot make suggestions on web sites without breaking the OCuK rules.

thanks for the advice - had been looking again at the Ixus 75 and it seems real nice wee machine. Will report back if I purchase anything!

I got a Canon Powershot G9 for my gf for her birthday. Cracking little camera so far, though I've not had much chance to play with it :/

Sorry guys I have more questions... I was looking at the Ixus 950 IS now which has great reviews - is the 'IS' worth gettinng? Is this image stabiliser? How much of an advantage is it?

just an update to this thread - bought a canon ixus 75 - really really pleased with it. Great small size, easy to use and takes great photos. Thanks for all the advice.
