Spec me cheap and nasty!

Hi all,

Got a friend who's after a cheap pc for his mum. Basically looking for a pc which is as cheap as possible based around C2D. base unit only. Not for gaming or anything, just cheap. On board graphics is fine, 80gb hard drive is fine. No kb or mouse required either.

No, change it to the Abit IP-95 and swap the RAM with cheapo 1Gb PC5300 since she is obviously not gaming and not overclocking?

I'd seriously consider buying a pre-built system for something like this tbh - she sounds like a perfect customer for the big mass-producers. You could get a very similar system for the same price or less as doing it yourself, it would come with legal windows and (more importantly) she wouldnt come to you when something went wrong with it!

I can't find any confirmation over which CPUs any of the mATX motherboards that OcUK sell but going by the specifications this one should work with an E2140. Calnen does have a point though, it probably isn't worth the hassle to build yourself.
