Although not strictly chick flicks, you can pretty much throw every Pixar and Dreamworks film on your list too. Watched Despicable Me with the girlfriend last night and she loved it far more than me (especially "It's so fluffy I could die!").

Pixar stuff is a good suggestion - Up is a good contender.

What about TV shows? My girlfriend and I recently got into Castle and it's really good

I actually quite liked Definitely, Maybe too. Ryan Reynolds and Isla Fisher are both great in that.

Also, Knocked Up is a nice blend of stupid comedy and chick flick.

on the classic front, you could always look at films like The Apartment or A Brief Encounter. Recently, thought Dan In Real Life and Rocket Science were both good films which had a chick-y element to them!

Good grief, some of these choices are mental. Closer? Really? That's about the least romantic love story going.

My recommendations...

Breakfast at Tiffany's - it's a romantic comedy which is both romantic and comedic, which are the two criteria that most modern romantic comedies fall down on.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast - quite possibly the best animated film ever, and very romantic. I watched it the other week and cried loads.

In related news, my wife and I happened to watch 10 minutes of PS I Love You the other week and were both about ready to kick the TV off its stand, such was the torture involved.
