Spec me domain registration and hosting!

I can't fault dreamhost, not sure on what other users think of the service but I've never had no downtime or any other issues with their service. But all I use their service for is to host images mainly, although I did run a couple of sites a few months back.

They are based in America, but download speeds and speed in general is very good. I payed around about £10 for a years worth of hosting and a free .com domain. I get 250GB of web space and 4TB of bandwidth, they only real reason they advertise this much space is because they know that 99% of their users will never use that much disk space or bandwidth.

The control panel is decent, its not cpanel which you get with much other hosts. Personally I prefer cpanel but dreamhosts own webpanel does the job and is quit easy to navigate theres nothing I hate about it.

If you do decide to go with dreamhost just search google for dreamhost cupon codes and use the one which gives you around $60 (I think it is off). Buy using the right cupon and their is not many you should get your hosting around less than £15.

There is also Tsohost which is a very good web company. I used them my self but I decided to move to dreamhost as it was cheaper for what I was planning to use my web space for. But tsohost are a very good company and the support is second to none. When ever you send an email you get a reply back with in minutes. They are also located in the UK so download speeds (if this is something which is important to you) will be very good I used to max out my 10MB connection with them. They also use cpanel which is very good for managing your web space. Note that you will have to buy a domain separate although tsohost give you a subdomain if you need one, so basically www.whateveryouwant.tsohost.co.uk.

Also check out the OChost review site, but thats basically my knowledge of web hosting and those companies as I have used both :).

I was with dreamhost for a couple of years - as above, they're pretty much faultless. However, I don't need what they offer so £60 p/year is a bit much. Was great when I got the discount code... a free domain name and a year's hosting for less than £10! They then offered me a discount for the 2nd year, but that has just expired so I just kept the domain registration with them and am considering another hosting company - looks like I might go with Surpass.

Depends what you are going for.

Low traffic HTML site? Dreamhost will be fine.
Much higher than that and their massively overloaded servers start to hinder you. They may quote massive figures but you will never get the CPU time to use them. Idiotic company.

I'd reccomend VidaHost, UK based and the support has been top notch, theres a staffer from there on these very forums, he's helped me on MSN quite a few times.

Namecheap.com for domain names - not had a problem with them with my 60+ domain names. They have just become ICANN accredited instead of being an Enom reseller.

Support is brilliant - transferred 5 domain names from my old Enom account to them on new years day and it was all done and dusted within 3 hours!

Hopefully this will work out a lot better than Registerfly when they got accredited!!

Hosting depends on what you are after - cheap and cheerful, windows or linux, directadmin or cpanel etc etc

Its been mentioned that quite a few hosts haunt his forum - as a personal recommendation if you want Linux & Directadmin is abluegrape.com. Cannot really comment on the support side of life though as I haven't needed to use them as I mainly use them for email and a couple of little play sites!
