Spec me something reliable - £1000 - £1500

I'm going to avoid BMWs, one day I'll have one and I hope for it to be an E92 M3 - one day, but not today.

Cheers for the suggestions guys, gives me some ideas...and El that Saab is mint, liking that a lot :)

Honda accord, as above.

Mine was 1600 and is really highly specced - full heated electric leather, climate, cruise, sunroof, Bose amplified stereo that actually sounds awesome and has a neat sub in the boot, electric everything etc etc.

The 1.8 is adequate, it ain't torquey but doesn't really feel bogged down unless you've got 4 people in the car. The 2.0 is obviously better but not by a huge amount, the 1.8 is actually 1.9l in capacity anyway. I get mid 30s from mixed driving and 40 on a run and it's the only car Ive owned where driving style doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Engine make a surprisingly nice noise, especially above 4k rpm.

Very comfortable, seats are good (although tall people might struggle) and it rides over bumps nicely. More comfy than my old Saab or mondeo, even. Handlings not too bad, turns in ok but it's a fwd non performance saloon so don't expect too much in that area!

I've had a few wee bits go wrong, but they're easy to work on and although parts aren't the cheapest, they're not too bad.

So ticks all your boxes, a saloon in the right colour (eg not "old rover brown" like mine) looks quite good, tons of them around so they should be easy to find, with the added bonus of a sub, vtec and decent engine note for proper Essex driving.

Yep I'd agree with Iain's sentiments, and also that the economy never seemed to change depending on how it was driven, I pretty much always seemed to average about 30mpg in mine :p

Nice reliable (mine didn't break, apart from having to replace a small part of the AC system), comfy cars that drive surprisingly well.

Holy hell, did I win a thread? :D

A few mpg lower going to the 2.0 (which, I believe is technically a 2.1 right) sounds reasonable. They're not thirsty things though.

If you end up getting an se exec with the bose system, give me a shout and I'll tell you how to get the sub working with and aftermarket HU :)

Aye, I was looking at Honda Accord not far from me last week. 2.0, full spec, satnav, leather etc everything, very good condition - £1495. Missed the boat though :(

What is the satnav like in these? Surprised to hear they even have it tbh!
