Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

as its a gaming machine i went for a gtx rather than a quad core but i gave a p35board as thats the best clocking board and will take some penryin chips

it is also the best board if you do get a quad later

Thanks for that guys, will i be able to play the games with no problems on those specs !?

This is what i had made myself, but then i came here for advice !

Dont they come with the CPU's these days ?

Yep they do but if your going to be doing any overclocking i would highly recommend a aftermart cooler. Like the Noctua.

Personally with the spec you had given, you can get a lot more for your money. Plus a GTX for a 17Inch screen is a bit of a waste.

About the monitors, i went from a 17'' to a 22'' widescreen and if i had the money again and could choose differently i would go for a 20'' with the same resolution such as the Samsung SM-206BW 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor its got exactly the same resolution as a 22''.

Also about the GFX cards, i would go for a 8800 640MB GTS especially as you can get a Leadtek GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB for only £229.11 inc VAT over a £100 cheaper than the GTX and will be able to handle any games out and in the near future, i just thinks its better value for money than the GTX.

Another thing which i forgot when building my gaming rig was a sound card, dont get me wrong the onboard sound for me at the beginning was good enough but when i got a new sound card about 2 weeks after building my gaming rig you really do notice the difference in games and especially as you wanted a gaming rig, a soundcard is almost a must. Some suggestions;
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer 7.1 Soundcard
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Professional 7.1 Soundcard
Razer Barracuda AC-1 Gaming 7.1 Soundcard

Each one suitable and up to the job, although the last one is quite a lot of money for a soundcard.

And another option for a good quality case is a Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case very nice looking case for a bit more money then the Lian-Li but its worthit. Anyways have fun with your new rig which im sure you will and tell us how you get on.

Ah ok then. Im not looking to overclock because basically i dont know how and i dont want to be breaking anything. So you think the spec above mine would run better ?

Overclocking is a relitivly simple procedure as long as your sensible and paitent and can give a massive performance boost, its also quite hard to permantly damage components when overclocking as long as you take your time and dont rush it whilst constantly chekcing your temps, but its up to, its your money and rig.

Ah i forgot to put in a soundcard, how silly of me. (truebluecfc ;) )

Their you go with Soundcard. ;) You should see a massive difference from your old rig, if that is your rig in your sig....

That should offer plenty of performance even if you dont intend to overclock it for a while.

Thanks for the help guys, im gunna go for the spec paul has posted up cos i want a gtx. Then im gonna get a sound card once i get paid end of the month.

you can change to the 20" lg moniter and get a xfi oem card with the diffrence keeping the same native res size so the gtx would be used and better image quality and sticking with a smaller moniter like you initinaly asked for

1200spec2.jpg

this would save you needing anythng else

if you dont want to overclock and u want the bigger moniter keep the stock cooler and use the cooler money for the xfi soundcard (the stock e6600 cooler is very poor tho)
