Spec my friend a sports car

Smaller and more nimble than a C Class Merc, itself not a particularly large car, yet tackles long journeys with a family in comfort?

The C Class is still quite a sizeable car, heavy too. And I don't think Mercs could ever be accused of being nimble. :D

Don't get me wrong, I love AMG Mercs - so much so that I bought one - but as I said earlier in the thread, I've been there (and I may go there again at some point) and I want something different this time.

There's no family, just the two of us, which is why I'm considering two-seaters.

I really don't agree, it's about as small as you'd reaosnably want a saloon to go.
I agree and if I was looking for a saloon a C63 would definitely be on the list. When I said I was looking for something smaller and more nimble I didn't mean another saloon/estate.

Edit: Chris beat me to it. :)

I'm thinking about sports cars with a bit of practicality rather than hot hatches. :)

E39 M5
E55 AMG
RS4
RS6
S4

Is what you've had.

What else is left if you don't want another Saloon/Estate and not a 5 door hatch either?

A coupe isn't exactly practical, I don't think a 4x4 is what you want either.

I'm really confused by what in between cars there are that are not hatch/saloon/estate/4x4.

How practical is a Caymen S? It's a 2 door with not much room for even a bike unless bike racks are his kind of thing.

From what I know he doesn't need that level of practicality, but more in the area of enough storage for him and his girlfriend for when he occasionally makes a jaunt up/down the country. I think something Boxster size would suit this perfectly whilst ticking the sports car box. Problem is, he likes his straight line poke and I'm not sure if the Porsche will deliver on this front.

Sports cars I suppose. :)

I don't need to carry bikes, just a suitcase and a hold-all or two for holidays and weekends away.

My old 911 had a decent-sized boot. I think the Cayman's is similar-sized and it's also got storage behind and above the engine.

I'm test driving one on Saturday so I'll find out soon enough. :)

Boxster S is also a consideration but I'm wary of soft tops after what happened with my 911's roof.
