specialist insurers a joke?

My mr2 turbo import was always cheapest on admiral. My e46 330ci cs is also cheapest on admiral. Bear in mind though, they WILL give you silly silly quotes on the phone. Comparisons sites were a bit better but going onto the actual admiral website and creating a quote there was by far the cheapest way of doing it.

Encountered the same as the OP in regards to specialist insurers on my import GT-Four last week. Absolutely no use.

Good postcode area, 3years NCB, 22yo
All of the specialists quoted over £2000(Some double!) and this year it would appear that all insurers have pulled out of insuring under 25's on a classic car policy as had been suggested on the owners club as I do limited miles.

I tried every specialist under the sun and not one of them wanted my business; as it seems the Admiral group will insure anything they (Admiral, bell, Elephant) were the cheapest at circa £750 (Mods declared).

Are you sure they classify a 16 year old car as a classic car? That was just an old car in my day, classics had to be 25 years old or more. Same with modified vehicles - unless they sported more than a certain number of modifications (e.g. engine and box change, suspension, lowered, brakes), they weren't recognised as modified in the eyes of the specialist insurers.

oh flogged it about 6-7 weeks ago matey, £15,800, less said about the whole thing the better :)

 I take it not fixed? Did it go to a dealer/specialist or someone hoping to repair it on the cheap themselves?

Sad to hear but £16k better off than you were 8 weeks ago with a car you might potentially never be able to use again.

ow

some say 15 some say 20 and some say 25.

by way of mods important talking intake, exhaust, bov i think the springs and shocks are oe bilstein but my local garage thought it might be a mod so i declared anyway. so its not like important approaching them with a v6 swap or bigger turbo at 3 bar running on apexi fc and intercooler etc..just very basic bolt ons.

but i do live in oldham ol low digit postcode:(

Im on multiple mr2 forums and as i say sky is even an affilliate and wouldnt quote me lol.

its just annnoying how postcode effects it so badly, ive had a licence over 10 years only 1 claim (6 yrs ago) no points, ever, no reports of cars being stolen or vandolised (okay both my previous primera and my dads lancer did get keyed/dads written off outside the house but again that was some years ago now...

Admiral still want £2400 to insure an Impreza STI for me.

Thats :

30 years of age
No points
no claims
5 years NCB
Standard Car.
Married with Kids
license for 12 years

The volvo in comparison is £900 which is bad enough :(

Postcode really does **** up your insurance.

Im about to change to an mr2 n/a with admiral. When getting quotes online i was getting around £800 for fully comp, thats 23, 6 years ncd and an £800 fault claim last year. Also worth noting thats with protected ncd, which seems to add a fair amount with a claim. Turbos were coming out at around 1150.

I also got quotes late last year for Impreza STi's for around 2k with the same details.

I tried all the usual suspects for specialist car insurance when I got my monaro, and none were competitive. The key point was I have not previously owned anything comparatively lairy, so until I had a year or so of performance car ownership under my belt they weren't going to be reasonable. I'm currently with Elephant and will try again next year...Admiral first said they wouldn't insure a remapped car, then later said they could add it to my multicar policy but the quote wasn't competitive with Elephant. I find this odd, since it's all EUI ltd, which I believe is underwritten by HSBC.

For the record, I'm ~28 and have 5+ years NCB and no claims ever.

They underwrite themselves ;)
