Hi guys.

I'm just waiting for a cheque to clear before I buy the following. I would appreciate it if some of you could check it out for compatibility etc. before I go ahead.

This will be my main gaming rig and will be getting crossfire X1950s when they're available. In the meantime, the X1900XT from my current gaming rig will be going in this one and the X1300 will be going in there.

Thank you.

Having just read a review on the P5W DH Deluxe it appears while it is packed full of useless features and costs more - the P5B is actually better!

Cheaper too :)

I would have happily gone for the P5B but no crossfire for some odd reason

How about swapping the WD hard disk for a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-079-SE). It's 4 quid more but apparently it's loads faster, nearly as fast as a Raptor. :)

That memory is mega expensive, you could get a 7300 GT DDR3 / 7600 GT with the money saved from getting a cheaper kit, I'd also be a bit dubious about the PSU handling Crossfired X1950s :(

Thats PSU is not compatible with Conroe as it states on their web site. Also I agree with Tetras that you may be pushing it under crossfire with that rig and may want to up your poer supply. And yes that ram seems a tad overkill.

Stan, how much better is that RAM you've spec'd than GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)? Don't they both use the D9GKX RAM chip?

Good point on the PSU - apart from it being incompatible I would also say it is a bit wimpy for a future Crossfire setup. I would go at least 600W! Seasonic do a nice one :D

RAM.. it might be useful if you overclock that conroe like crazy but I must say it does look a little overkill.

Buy a different case, the Eclipse is ugly in a way only a mother can love! :D

I may rethink the PSU as there seems to be a consensus that it won't have enough oomph for the crossfire setup - As far as I can gather, it's only the Intel motherboards which are incompatible, as they are the only ones which have the 8 pin +12V connector, the Asus has a 4 pin connector.

I do intend to overclock as much as possible which is why I chose the "overkill" RAM. I intend to watercool eventually and possibly even put the CPU under phase so I wanted to make sure the RAM was well up to the task.

I chose the case because it is reputedly one of the best as far as cooling goes. It'll be stuffed under a desk so it doesn't really matter how fugly it is - unless someone can suggest a case with equal (or close) cooling which looks better?
How good is the Lian Li V1000 for cooling, I like the look of that case?

Stan :)

Changing the PSU is probably a good idea, 600w+ is better for Crossfire, I'm assuming that the X1950XTs will have a similar sort of power requirement to the X1900XTs.

I'm not sure how good XP64 is for games, you may still be better with ordinary XP?

I think SiriusB is wrong on the case front :p (pun not really intended) when he says it is ugly, it is quite plain but still classy I reckon and it is one of the best cases for airflow. I'd take a quick look in the cases forum to see what other options you have in that price range.

The Hiper Type-R is compatable with the P5W I swapped mine into the case earlier. Can't comment on your power requirements though as i'm not running crossfire.

i am a akasa eclipse owner and it's awesome, yes it's big and bulky but has a gorgeous finish on it, is really well put together and is so easy for working on! i have even taken out the hard drive cage (which just slots out) which increases airflow and mounted my hard drive in the floppy drive area!
