Spices?

Hmm. This is all they have - "Sainsbury's Crushed Chillies 32g" and I already have "Sainsbury's Hot Chilli Powder 33g" in the cupboard...

I think I might need to get by with the 101 other spices for now :)

I'm sure you will manage fine matey, as for crushed yes that would be them. They look like a jar of chilli seeds with little 'flakes' of red throughout.

Not sure if it applies to other spices, but with paprika, I'd give a strong recommendation for La Chinata. They sell it in some of the bigger supermarkets in the posh food bit with all of the balsamic drizzle and whatnot.

When you're making something really simple like Stroganoff where the sauce is basically paprika and soured cream, you really notice the difference. The normal tesco stuff tastes basically like dust in comparison.

Bit late to switch from Sainsbury's - however I think I'll replace spices as I use them with more expensive ones, and see if I notice the difference. The relative cost won't be high since I'd be lucky to use one jar of spice a week on average.

They arrived. I may have gone overboard :) Here's what came...

And here's all the spices I now have.

I'm now reminded how precious spices were in previous times. The world's major trade routes were established for the purpose of trading this substance which I've just dropped an hours wage on and nowhave more than a very wealthy man would have centuries ago.

Thanks for the advice folks. I think I'm going to really enjoy my food :)
