Spider - what is it?

OP it is a false widow. We have them around here (I'm in Surrey). Though not native they are beginning to thrive in the warmer climate along the south of England.

The first one we found was in my daughter's nursery! We took a pic and posted it onto the Natural History Museum bug forum where some boffins confirmed it's species.

They advise we check clothes from now on if left out and that we will encounter more (indeed they were right as we have seen more - we do live on the edge of woodland). They do bite, and in one case it put someone in a coma though that was mainly due to a reaction (might want to Google that!).

Had 3 or 4 of these living in my car port. I say had because they appear to have vanished, hopefully dead and not either in my car, my flat or in your shoes......

Thankfully not seen one in the house yet.

If they are making they way up from the south then I might need to look at moving up north!!
