I dunno about the Carling Cup, as I see it, all the top teams put in a slightly weakened team out for the early games in both the CC and FA Cup, but slide in a few more important players as the competition progresses. I personally believe they're quite even in terms of the clubs.

I was looking at the lineup for the next round of the Europa League the other day, and it did make me wonder why it's seen as such an unappreciated competition. Most of the teams left are all quality, and if they tried could easily put on a good game.

I think the problem is that most of them are Champions League failures, and that the rest have to go through that unneccesary group stage to get here. Atletico won the cup last season having played about three games to Fulham's 7.

Chop the CL down to size, shove everybody else in a massive Europa League draw, and make it all two leg knockouts. Sorted.
