Not sure if this is already discussed somewhere else, but here are the top three:

I mean I was already out a long time ago and nobody takes it seriously anymore, since it's now a DEI vehicle for the BBC rather than a serious award based on genuine merit and sporting aptitude and achievements, but Mary Earps - a goalie that's won nothing - being more deserving than one of England's greatest ever bowlers with 604 test wickets, takes the biscuit.

It's become a fixed award for the best virtue-signaling by the woke BBC editors and they have ruined this like they ruined Question of Sport.

The nominations were poor but then they usually are, the great British public voted for the winner. No idea how a team member who won nothing beat the rest but I won’t lose sleep over it

It’s always been a bit of a nothing award. Like I’ll never look back and think wow, so and so won that. It’s a nice evening out for a ton of celebrities and that’s about it.

How have Ronnie O’Sullivan or frankie dettori never got even close to winning this?

Apparently Earps wants to change the world. Isn’t that something that Miss World contestants say?

Frankie was 3rd (behind Damon Hill and Steve Redgrave which is a hot year to be fair!) in 96 the year he rode the magnificent 7 at Ascot.

Ronnie I think is too polarising a character to win it, same as Tyson Fury about half the country think he's a **** and half think he's a genius.

- WSL Golden Glove 22-23
- FIFA Women's World Cup Golden Glove 2023
- England Women's Player of the Year 22-23
- BBC Women's Footballer of the Year 2023
- Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year 2023

Wasn't Stuart Broad part of the Ashes Squad that only drew the 2023 series, enabling Australia to retain the Ashes? Of course if we're choosing to honour past achievements (I'm sure Broad's 604 wickets weren't just in 2023), Mary Earps was part of the Euro 2022 squad, who won the whole competition.

I'm not personally bothered who wins SPOTY, but please don't make statements like the above without properly researching.
