Well I sprained my wrist 2 weeks ago at the gym (lifting to heavy) and i've not been in since.

Was making great gains and starting to see a real difference, but I feel like i've lost a fair bit since i've stopped which I'm fairly annoyed about as it took a long time to gain.

So my question is, is there anything I could do to keep in shape/maintain what I have while the wrist heals properly?

Thing is i've also cut out all the protien shakes etc as i'm not working out atm...

keep up the cardio. your strength will come back when you get back on the weights, god bless muscle memory :D

edit: ooooh 15,000 posts for me!

I'm paranoid of getting smaller if i do too much cardio as my diet is all over the place now i'm not training/in routine.

Would it be best to just work on my legs and use the squat machines etc?

Make sure your diet is excellent when you're not training!

lol you posted that just before I did, guess I need to have more discipline.

gotta agree, cardio and a good diet should see you fine. think of it as a cutting period, just dont go ott :]

Sorry OP, I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I didn't go to the gym for 3 weeks due to a back injury and I felt that I had lost what I had gained too.

Why do we lose muscle or why do they seem to shrink lol?

Thanks.

Most of it is in your head.

You probably stop training, stop eating well, stop doing anything. A break will not do you any harm just don't let everything else go to rubbish.

The first thing I'd say is don't rush back too quickly to ensure you don't end up with a permanent injury.

Secondly, if its just your wrist you've sprained, surely you could work round it and do exercises which avoid involving it!

What exactly were you doing when you sprained your wrist? i.e. what lift?

Was doing a dumbell bench press, was lifting pretty heavy and my left hand was losing grip and I ended up spraining it. It's my last 2 fingers on that hand which hurt when I try to grip.

That's a shame mate, but you've learnt the hard way that it's better to be safe than go too heavy and loose grip / good form.
