Hi guys,

Silly question but i assume that all SSD drives are very quiet as there are no moving parts. Do they get very hot? I was thinking about getting the following:

Adaptec 2405
3 X OCZ Core V2 30GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive

Total Cost: £411

What is everyones thoughts?

My current setup is 74GB Raptor + 1TB Samsung F1

The Core Series is ideal for an energy-efficient mobile or a RAID configured desktop to provide blazing speeds and advanced access and seek times.

Should be fine?

SSD are totally silent and they slim enough to fit 3 of them into a single 3.5 inch drive bay, you will need to find some way of securing them though. I had my husband make a a custom bracket for 2 Core V2 60GB, which i was able to secure in a 3.5 inch drive bay. Mines are also connected to an Adaptec 2405 and they work great. 1x Core V2 will leave your Raptor for dead on that RAID card. Expect about 400MB/s read 300MB/s write with your setup.

One thing to keep in mind. The Adaptec 2405 is PCIE x8, so you first need a spare PCIE x8 socket and second, if it is not an Intel x38 or X48 chipset motherboard (not sure of nVidia) then your graphics card will also slow down to x8 rather than x16, whereas, in an X38/X48 chipset motherboard (True twin PCIE x16) your graphics card still runs at x16.

Thanks for the advice Dee. At present, i think harddrives are really the last compoent within the common PC that will see serious improvment within the next couple of years.

Well i have a X48 board so i was thinking of selling both of my 4870's and getting something allot better when the new cards come out :)
