I live in the nicer part of Newton-Le-Willows, nearer to Warrington.

Just noticed this. It sounds like we're almost literally neighbours as that's where I live too... *prepares to furiously stalk*

It's nearer to the M62/M6 than St Helens to boot.

Well to be fair, Newton is classed as being in St Helens anyway; but I know what you're saying.

EDIT: *snip* My sister on the other hand, for reasons beyond my ken, chooses to live at the other side of St Helens in a street worthy of Shameless and her neighbour's highest qualification is an ASBO.

as above dentons green, eccleston, windle are ok (east of town), slightly biased as that's where i spent the firrst 18 years of my life.
