ST Needs some new Tyres

Hello all,

The time has come where i need to replace the ST's Tyres, i have had the car 4 months and the tread is now low low low, the Tyre's are still the original ones from new.

I have been looking around and there are so many to choose from, i have spent hours reading over @ TyreReview.

I need two new tyres for the ST, what do you guys recommend? do i look at high end tyres or lower priced ones?

I do a mixture of driving, A/B Roads, 160 Mile motorway trips etc.

Currently the car has the Continental Conti Sport 2? two are almost 3 pointers (bald on the back) the fronts are 5MM but one has a slow puncture.

Do i want 4 matching all round? or can i put some cheaper pair on the back and a decent pair on the front?

Translates to = Soft compound giving good grip, which wear out more quickly than other makes.

If you need boots go to a shoe shop lol.

Since when is Fox a tyre expert?
He spent years pooh-poohing CS3s.

I didnt refer to him as an expert, a detailed review doesnt make him an expert.

What relevance does that have?

Also the fact that CS' are standard on various hot hatches support the view that they are adequate for this type of car.

I am ever so sorry about my literacy, i forgot, this is section of OCUK is not home to the White Spotted Common Inter-Geek.

Yes, what i was trying to say,

From the literature i have read i have come to the conclusion that the Current Tyre's, the "CS3's" are known to Wear down noticeably faster than the equivalent Tyre from another manufacture Such as the "Michelin Pilot Sport PS2" and the "Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric".

Most review sites i have read are contraindicating one and other so i return here with the hope of a true drivers opinion.

Main point/facts/figures taken from this page :

In my experience, albeit with an old-shape Focus, the ContiSport Contact3s wear down ridiculously quickly but are an otherwise excellent tyre with fantastic dry grip, rubbish damp grip and good wet grip.

I found them to be grip-grip-grip-grip-grip-ohmygodnogripaaaaaargh.

I swapped to Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas earlier in the year and I've found them to be equally as good as the Continental tyres in dry conditions, miles better in damp conditions and slightly better in wet conditions.

They're more grip-grip-grip-littlebitlessgrip-littlebitlessgrip-ohmygodnogripaaaaaargh.

If I had a Focus ST and needed new tyres... I'd go with the Vredestein.

Thankyou Glitch,

Also, this time of year, being on the front side of winter and the cold weather to come is making my decision harder, the CS3's are branded a summer tyre are they not?

If you're that worried, get a set of winter tyres and then take them off in the spring and stick on a set of CS3s.
