ST220 - first impressions/mini-review

I am a vauxhall fanboi because I ask why mondeos are always regarded as great and I happen to own a vauxhall?
It is a genuine question. Why cant you answer it?

Answer what? why you don't like mondeo ST's?

Only you can answer that, however calling them rust buckets is simply wrong, I have yet to see an ST with rust and mine is almost 8 years old.

The reason why they are considered great is a combination of things which are pretty well documented and that the alternatives like the Vauxhall Vectra were so poor in comparison.

You are more than entitled to dislike a car, however saying the rust and they are common is stupid. If you dislike the ST220 so much for being so common, why did you buy a rep mobile in a party dress?

If you read above I said mondeos in general are common. The ST220 is plain.
As for being a rep mobile in a party dress isn't that the same as the ST220?

I was probably wrong for posting my question in this thread as it is derailing it slightly. The OP posted a good review & I decided to ask why mondeos are so popular, maybe I should have asked in a new thread all together. But after reading thread after thread, day after day about people with mondeos & people recommending mondeos I simply asked why they are so good & gave my opinion on them...

I am merely challenging why you dislike them. I thought two of the reasons why you dislike them were silly.

No, answer why they are so great. I know why I dont like them.
And yes, the vectra was very poor... Is that why mondeos are so great? Because they are better then the vectra? I am sure there are more then 2 models of car on the roads...

Now you are trolling. Compared to the cars available in their class at their price range they were (and still are) superior.

They handle better, built better, reliable, spacious, well equipped, competitively priced.......and so on.

That is why they are considered great cars, whether you personally like them or not has little bearing on that.

Its obvious why mondeos are popular

  • Cheap
  • Good to drive
  • Practical
  • Look good (subjective)
  • cheap to run
  • reliable

What's not to like?

They aren't super exotica or anything, personally I think they are very good cars considering what they are (boring cars to get from a to b)

No you didn't. You came out with some made up, irrational reason as to why you don't like the Mondeo, then when everyone called you a troll you tried to be all innocent and say "All i was doing was asking why people liked the Mondeo". If you had really wanted to know the reason why the Mondeo is popular, you would have said "Guys, why do you all think the Mondeo is so highly regarded?".

The Mondeo is a very good all rounder. That's what it does. It handles great, drives nicely, has a nice interior, has a good selection of quality engines, is great value for money and is cheap to fix should it go wrong.

If you wanted a car for getting to A to B, why wouldn't you get a Mondeo?

P.s. you knowledge of a car which is possibly the biggest rival to your own isn't great is it? Doesn't seem like you even bothered to research the Mondeo before you went and spent £20k+ on a Vauxhall.

Let me guess, you're one of these "Well, i've had a Vauxhall all my life and i like it, so they must be AMAZING cars?" instead of seeing what else is out there?

Can hardly stop him from commenting on that can it?

I can say a bright yellow lambo is loud and ostentations can't I?

I didn't question him commenting just on his statement that Mondeo ST's are renowned as rust buckets, which is patently untrue. He decided to get all uppity and start demanding answers he already knows.

Wtf has happened here? Stop it!

Real world fuel economy - not going to happen with me as most days the car sits on the drive doing nothing.

29.6 mpg was my figure for my trip to Manchester and back across the pennines.Mixture of town, motorway and twisties, with a nervous passenger so not too much right boot.

Pictures, I have a few after the trip to Manchester so she's a bit dirty - they will be going up over weekend, and given the upcoming weather looks decent I'll do some after a good wash and wax :)

Mine is down to 21mpg, probably due to age.(or my driving style)

Given the car is just a toy for me, not a tool - I'm expecting 20-25 out of mine looking long term.

Most probably I'll be closer to to the 20 than 25 due to the nature of its use but it's nice to know I can edge the high twenties to low thirties if I want to on a good distance, sensible family run.

Mine is just my personal car (had it since new), we have a 2009 Range Rover as well, (we used to have a Merc company car, but gave that up for the cash instead)that gives better mpg than my ST...

I like the ST a lot, which is why I simply can't decide whether to replace it or not, even though I've had it so long. I keep hoping that Ford make an ST version of the new one (I suspect they would say the 2.0T Ecoboost Titanium X Sport is).
