Stacked the car this morning (pics)

RWD you can apply more throttle to correct oversteer. Hence drifting.

And you never just plant the accelerator.

having never driven a RWD car - just vans and my motorbikes, i can only comment on them.

you dont shut the throttle you lift off it a bit to allow the rear time to grip. if you lift off completely you will have it snap round the other way on you.

but to the average road user who doesn't drift all the time i'd probably advise backing off the throttle without shutting it off completely.

in my opinion of course. :)

edit - oh.. and i also i do PLANT the accelerator on mine is if goes loose at the back. mine's a 1.8D so planting it is the only way it will do anything lol. if it was a 250bhp Type R, that's a different matter though....

I think he meant how i ended up facing the wrong way with the car on its side. I dont have a clue either! Might go up today and see if there are any obvious marks

I did indeed, at 17 I drove my mums Corsa like a complete.... well, 17 year old! I never managed anything like that! There but for the grace of god?

One less Corsa 1.2. Every cloud...

Glad you're OK, its only metal, learn any lessons and ensure you have a few stiff drinks tonight.

In reality, you wouldnt have thought a single thing, it would have all happened before you could even think to make a serious correction and stop yourself hitting the grass verge.
At the moment it will seem like it was all in slow motion, but trust me, 50mph accidents like yours are over with in no more than a couple of seconds.

Have a few drinks and have the pain killers ready for tomorrow :]
Good job on admitting it was your fault.

speak for yourself mate.

As fox said, I am speaking for myself. My accident was at a slower speed than the OPs and as much as i want to tell myself that i did all that i could before hitting the ditch, I know that i probably did nothing worthwhile at all. it all happened far to fast for an inexperienced mind (in that capacity and urgency).

Unless your reaction is instant it most likely wont matter and the thing thats weird with FWD is you dont even know straight away that the rear wheels have lost traction, or least I dont. By the time you do notice the oversteer, you've missed any chance to correct it

With the greatest respect, I disagree with you.
